That comes to a total of $5 175.52. Does that sound like a normal amount of receipts to those who have done this before? Does anybody else know where more receipts may have been hidden? I'm not sure whether 512KB of RAM is a typo or not, but computers these days have up to 512 MEGAbytes of RAM - a big difference if you ask me! The CPU also leaves a lot to be desired - who ever heard of counting CPU velocity in MHZ? For a computer to be worth it these days it should be at least counted in GHZ, like the Pentium 4 processor or the AMD ATHLON. OTOH, 2kg of games sounds like a lot. Does anyone have the formula for working out MB from KG? Maybe we could just take those and run them on a GOOD computer. ffs, Luke PS: External floppy drive? WTF! In my BEAST I didn't even include an INTERNAL floppy drive. For shame! lol >> >> I could probably pick it up off Damian, as I work with him, but I'm >> not going to bother lugging it back to UCC if it's just going to be a >> piece of junk that sits in the clubroom taking up room, and nobody >> ever uses it. >> >> >> ---------- Forwarded message ---------- >> From: Damian Bramanis >> Date: Sun, Jun 1, 2008 at 3:50 PM >> Subject: [ucc] Free to good home: Amiga 1000 >> To: ucc at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au >> >> >> Free: Amiga 1000 (yes, the original Amiga) >> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga_1000 >> >> The last time I turned it on it worked just fine (don't know how many >> years ago). The Amiga was one of the best games platforms of all time - it was the first machine with a decent amount of grunt, including video and audio co-processors, and spawned a revolution in games, allowing entirely new genres of games. What's more, this was at a time when a handful of really good people could write a great game, without hundreds of artists, dozens of programmers, reams of red tape, and corporate suits controlling everything. Gameplay came first, not marketing deals and stupid movie-tie-ins. If there's nobody at UCC with more appreciation of old machines than this, let an old-guard who will appreciate it take the machine instead. I just > wish I had the space for it... :-) I do think the UCC was cooler when a new member would find all sorts of interesting, bordering-on-bizarre machines to play with. When I joined some of the most useful machines were the BeOS and NeXT workstations, just because they had web browsers and seemed quite fast. Seems a shame that sort of neat kit which you'd not find at home, work or elsewhere on campus has vanished.. .. but it's no longer all that useful, and doesn't serve a need that people actually hanging about in the clubroom have. I guess we should more lament the lack of neat, cool innovation producing new equivalents of the BeBox and whatever. Do these crazy rebel operating systems and hardware platforms exist? Can we get our hands on them? That'd actually be interesting; something new and cool and up-and-coming. It'd be a shame to think that all there is out there is WIndows, Linux and MacOS! Yeah, I've got a 1200 here thats mostly running. I'm just waiting for some time after exams to sit down and finish installing all of the extra stuff to get it onto the internet via a PCMCIA ethernet card I have. Its even sporting a 68030 accelerator and a few megabytes of RAM so it should actually be almost useful. I'm really not sure about this -- I've never owned a leather couch, but I'd imagine that they're a lot more resistant to getting torn up like the current couch. At the same time, I suppose the leather could start to degrade pretty quickly. I'm not really a sofa expert. Of course any furniture left in UCC is going to end up in pretty poor condition eventually... which is why we want to replace the current cloth one. Leather is easier to keep clean, but will probably not last as long if people don't look after it. If you can get people to keep their feet and other assorted crap off of it, it'll probably fare ok though. There is a leather couch in Unisfa that, aside from existing damage, has been kept in remarkably good nick. They do have a cloth covering on it though which might be contributing to it's longevity. > Of course any furniture left in UCC is going to end up in pretty poor > condition eventually... which is why we want to replace the current > cloth one. That was my point. The current one wasn't in the best condition when we got it, but it only took a day or so for it to go from having a couple of small holes to have a large tear in the fabric. I'm Just wondering if it's actually in UCC's interest spending the money on a nice couch when a cheaper one will do just as well and probably last just as long. It seems a shame to me, at least, to take a nice couch into UCC when it could end up somewhere else and be a nice couch much longer. That said, $300 for two couches is a pretty good buy. They were both free. Seriously guys, it's not that hard to find free couches. We just got another 3 or so last week and threw out our old ones (you didn't want them). Just be on the lookout for old furniture, post to the lists {UCC, UniSFA} and ask if anyone has anything. The biggest problem with leather and the real reason why there's that protector on it is because Leather is shit. It's HORRIBLE to sit on in Summer, you get stuck to it and it's hot and it's just blech. Save the money. Being an integral part of the student community at university, I would like you to help me promote this event to all of UWA's students through word of mouth, flyers or email. The event will be held at the SSLT @ UWA on Saturday July the 12th, 2008 from 12-2pm. As the seminar will talk about general financial advice such as investments, cashflow, superannuation, taxation and insurance (things not taught at school or at university), I feel that it is important that all university students get this education to enable them to really empower themselves to make the right decisions regarding their financial future as they will be entering the full time workforce very soon. As someone who is on the road to financial freedom myself (I am a 29 year old mechanical engineer (UWA educated) turned options trader that now works 8-10 hours a week and makes 10 times my engineering salary), I know how important it is to get the proper financial education because of what is available to me now (time and money). The event is also a fundraising event for the Cancer Council of Western Australia so all proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorship will be going towards a very worthwhile charity. So with all of this said, are you and your club in a position to help? I have provided specific reasons as to why people should attend below and also attached a recommendation letter from the Cancer Council of W.A. Please let me know if you can help by sending out the flyer attached including the reasons why people should attend. In my opinion it would be fantastic to just get the word out there and let people decide if they really want to take action of their financial affairs. I also think it is a win win situation in that young people get the education that they really need whilst cancer patients, their families and loved ones also get something to help them out!!! Please feel free to contact myself if you have any other suggestions as I would be happy to hear it. best regards, Michael Chin 0411 886 593 _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Reasons why you should attend the "Make a Difference" seminar: 1. To help you understand where are you financially. This is vitally important if you have not yet taken the time to review your financial well being or have not yet had the opportunity to plan for your future financial goals and needs. The sooner this is done the better off you will be in the long run. 2. To create a framework for understanding financial matters specifically in the areas of cash flow, investments, superannuation, insurance and taxation. This will enable people to clarify issues when making financial decisions so that financial goals and objectives are achieved. This is a crucial step for people who want to set upon the path to financial freedom and independence. 3. To increase your financial literacy within the community so that you may not only increase your quality of life but also contribute to the people that you love and care about in your lives through the sharing of this information. 4. To gain access to professional financial advice at the fraction of the cost for a normal consultation. The information delivered in this seminar by the presenters has been acquired through many years of experience, work and education within their selected fields in the financial services industry. They have generously decided to share that information with all the attendees for free (all proceeds are going towards the Cancer Council of Western Australia) so THAT THEY can make a difference to you! They will also take the time to answer any specific questions that you might have after the seminar (time permitting). 5. By purchasing a ticket to attend this seminar, YOU will be making a difference towards the quality of life for someone suffering from cancer as all proceeds go to the Cancer Council of Western Australia. Seats are limited to the first 300 people! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
