A few months ago I realised that there was very little inter-university interaction between computing clubs - and yet I found a lot of inspiration in looking at what groups at other universities are doing. I decided that it would be useful to establish an inter-university group to share information and inspiration. I have thus established a Google Group as an inter-university communications forum - it's not like what the Law and Medical students have, but it will hopefully be useful nonetheless. To be honest, I have no idea how interested other club execs are in this idea - I'd really like to know what you think. If you are interested, the Google Group can be found at: https://groups.google.com/d/forum/aus-comp-student . (Yes, it does need a Google Account unfortunately) Please share this with anyone else you think might be interested - I'd like to get as many people involved as possible! Thank you! We do not have any formalised sponsorship levels as such - in the past individuals or companies have donated computing and networking equipment in used but otherwise good condition, office chairs and sometimes money. All such donations are recorded in the equipment documentation and displayed on the website. A particular event that would benefit from sponsorship from a company such as yours is our annual UCC Camp, last held this September at Camp Leschenaultia in Chidlow. At previous camps we've used an assortment of our members' equipment and some degree of ingenuity to hack together an internet connection for the weekend. If you might be able to provide a service similar to your NBN Fixed Wireless, potentially with a small range of static routed IPv4/IPv6 address space, we would be able to ease some of the stringent network usage restrictions we've needed to have in place in the past, and provide an improved experience to those attending the camp. We could certainly come to some agreement if you would like your business name and logo included in promotion of the event. If any of this interests you, please let me know and I'm sure we can come to some arrangement. I have been working with Francis in order to try and help him connect with his community. Francis has a real interest in computers and I was wondering if you guys might be open to the idea of Francis joining your club? Francis has high functioning autism and doesn't need any physical support or anything like that, he is using my support more for social guidance. Anyway if there is any time in the near future that we might be able to come down and have a chat with someone about membership I would really appreciate it! I am available to speak to you (and him), most afternoons next week, from 2pm onwards. You can call me on my mobile on 04 1508 4249. Much of my own family and that of my partner have varying degrees of Aspergers. As do I myself, and quiet a know of a least one other UCC member. I should let you know UCC is often a rather loud place, I don't know if this is going to be a problem. The week after next is when we begin our pre-exam study break (which is followed by exams an holidays). which does lessen/change the clubroom activities. At 6pm Wednesday 7th November we are running a TechTalk/Hackathon. It will likely run late into the night, and involve pizza. This might be a good event for him to get an understanding of some of the more interesting things the club does; though I'll be glad to discuss it with you.
