In response to this, [ROW] doored [SZM]. We, the committee, feel that the dooring of [SZM] was unjust and so have moved to that [SZM] be un-doored. This motion passed unanimously among present committee members ([SAS], [NEO], [XON], [ODF], [VAN]). However, this and recent events have shown that the current Door and Dooring policy needs to be re-addressed, which will be raised in the upcoming committee meeting. Both the dooring of [SZM] and [ROW] will also be discussed. Thank you, Erin UCC Secretary 2013 From lupinemagnum at gmail.com Wed May 8 16:39:25 2013 From: lupinemagnum at gmail.com (Rowan France) Date: Wed, 8 May 2013 16:39:25 +0800 Subject: [committee] Dooring of [SZM] Message-ID: Previously I had doored Sam Moore [SZM]. This was subsequently revoked by committee. After further discussion with committee and consultation with the UCC constitution, it seems that this is not a power that they have, and that the dooring must be discussed at a committee meeting. However, upon reflection I realize that my actions were in error. Although I disagree with the reason behind my dooring, retaliating with a dooring of my own was inappropriate, and an abuse of the door powers given to me. As such, although I am technically unable to do so, I will "undoor" [SZM] in good faith, and extend him an apology. I still believe that I was unjustly doored and will discuss this at the next committee meeting. Rowan [ROW] -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This could be covered by either a committee member or another door member. Also, clarity definitely needs to be added to the punishments (as well as allowing for some discretion from the door member performing the dooring) as otherwise it seems like there's only one possible punishment for ALL cases. Aside from that, it all seems pretty good for policy that should have been codified ages ago. M12 (Not actually a member... To clarify (as the minutes we unclear, so i see how you gained the wrong impression). [RVS] mentioned to me after the vote, the he didn't think that that votes worked that way. I had a laptop open to our policies at the time, so I was all, "Hmm better check that". Upon reading the constitution, I realised he was correct. So I brought this to committee's attention. In doing so I suggested that committee might like to interpret the constitution to match out precedent, however a naive reading did says that. (Since then we have perhaps found clarifications in Roberts Rules of Order). I did this not out of disrespect, but out of Respect for Rowan, and his right to have a fair hearing. I personally was very in-favour of removing him from door. I'm glad you brought this oversight in the minutes to light, so I could correct the misconception. I should also correct your misconception that I am on committee. I am merely a interested outsider, like yourself. >Anyway, this rant won't be accepted and I can already feel the bitching on IRC and other places about how I should shut >the fuck up. I just hope those people realise that I'm far from the only one who thinks these things. It's also clear to me that this year's Progcomp is not a very popular event, and perhaps imposes unrealistic expectations on people.
