From: Hugh Greethead Sent: Thursday, 5 October 2017 8:38 PM To: secretary at ucc.asn.au Cc: president at ucc.asn.au; Taiyang Zhang Subject: Dappbase - exciting opportunities in blockchain technologies forcomputer science students Hi Ruisi, My name is Hugh Greethead and I am the Community Manager of Dappbase, and Tai my CEO (cc'd here) are emailing you to present an exciting opportunity in the blockchain technology field which will help the computer science students in the UCC to engage in a new, dynamic industry. Since a part of the UCC's aims is to broaden the community's knowledge of computing and applications as well as help members with industry connections, I thought?the?opportunities in the blockchain/cryptocurrency industry for students to gain practical experience and expand their knowledge would be appealing. Dappbase is a platform/toolkit which significantly eases the development of blockchain and decentralised applications.?As reported by the Financial Times and the NASDAQ, demand for blockchain developers and employees with blockchain skills outstrips supply by 3 times and is continuing to grow. Dappbase is building a community of eager developers and blockchain enthusiasts to become part of leading the fundamental change in the future of the internet.? Trying to keep things as simple as possible so all this means is: -Last week we recruited 25 new blockchain developers/enthusiasts to our community and we are looking to recruit more!? -Dappbase is developing exciting partnerships within the blockchain industry and will have jobs, internships and opportunities to gain invaluable practical experience & exposure to commercial projects -We are also seeking developers to specifically join the Dappbase team for upcoming Dappbase blockchain projects -The higher demand for blockchain developers means those with blockchain skills are being rewarded at much higher rates?? Would you be able to help us share this opportunity with your society? What are the best channels through which to share Dappbase with?? We are genuinely excited about the future of blockchain technology and we believe your passionate society members, particularly those excited by new technologies, could benefit greatly from the career opportunities at Dappbase. Thank you for your time and I look forward to talking with you soon. From charcoaldragon at hotmail.com Sun Oct 8 18:27:59 2017 From: charcoaldragon at hotmail.com (Thomas Miller) Date: Sun, 8 Oct 2017 10:27:59 +0000 Subject: [committee] Door Application Message-ID: Open Questions 1. Why do you want to be on Door? Twice in the last week I have been at Cameron Hall when a door member has left the room with no other door members and without closing the room. The first time the door member returned after many minutes after realising their mistake. The second, I took it upon myself to lock the tool cupboard and the machine room, gave the members a little amount of time to wrap up their games, removed some rubbish, turned of the light and closed the door. I want to be on door because I think I would increase the number and quality of current door group. 2. What difference will putting you on Door make? In the past I have demonstrated that I am willing to call people up on leaving mess in the clubroom, including other door members. I would diligently scour the webcams to find the offenders and issue email warnings/doorings. Policy Questions 1. Where would you find the Door Group policy? https://www.ucc.asn.au/infobase/policies/door.ucc University Computer Club www.ucc.asn.au The University Computer Club at the University of Western Australia 2. Why do we have door members? To protect the members and property of the club. Door members are also expected to attend officially announced cleaning sessions, or give their apologies and a reason for not attending. 3. Who should you contact with questions/concerns about the policy? Ask a Committee member. 4. How does committee officially contact Door members? Using their club emails. Practical Questions 1. What is the vending machine code to unlock the door? 55 2. If someone is violent, refuses to leave, or otherwise poses a danger to people or property, you should call UWA Security. What is their number? Give both the emergency and non-emergency numbers. 6488 3020 ? Security 6488 2222 ? Emergency 3. Briefly describe how the door system works (describe how the above code actually unlocks the door). The vending machine communicates with merlo. This triggers the door relay, which unlocks the door. 4. If you are unable to unlock the door from the snack machine, how else should you open the door? Give both methods. 1. Dispense door using the consoles outside the clubroom (when it is working). 2. Find someone with a key, or get a key from guild student admin. 5. Who has clubroom keys on their person and who is able to get the clubroom key out from the Guild Student Centre? -President and normally VP have keys. But you guys are getting more. -Committee can get keys out. 6. What needs to be done when closing the clubroom? Take out rubbish, arrange chairs, lights off, make sure soldering iron is off, tools are away and tool cupboard is locked. 7. What needs to be done when leaving Cameron Hall? If you are the last ones to leave Cameron Hall, turn off the lights and close both bottom doors. 8. If you are unable to correct an issue with something in the clubroom, who should you inform? machine issues should be emailed to wheel at ucc.asn.au and probably tech@ and committe@ too. Dispense Questions 1. What is your current dispense account balance? motsugo:~> dispense acct charcoaldragon charcoaldragon : $ 0.04 (user) 2. What is the current balance of the account zanchey? motsugo:~> dispense acct zanchey zanchey : $ 0.26 (user) 3. Where is the dispense log kept? /home/other/coke/cokelog motsugo:~> (less/tail) ~coke/cokelog 4. What was the first drink dispensed this year? 'coke330' (coke:6) for gmbpepper (when coke was in 330ml cans, for 85 cents !!!!) 5. Name someone who is able to open the vending machines. Nick, or any door member that knows the code to the lockbox. 6. How would you rename slot 5 of the coke machine to vanilla coke? dispense slot coke:5 100 ?vanilla coke? 7. How would you disable slot 33 of the snack machine? dispense slot snack:33 0 dead 8. What is wrong with this command: dispense acct Zanchey +500 "money in safe bag 54"? ?Zanchey? has a lower case z. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Catfishes keyboard cable is broken, so I can only assume there has been a three-way swap. This sort of behaviour is frequent, and incredibly unfair to those of us who use the Linux machines. We are not here to use the broken gear from the Windows machines. If a computers keyboard is broken, that should be replaced with a spare, or fixed - not taken from another machine. I note there has not been any sort of email or communication to the lists to say that the USB cable needs replacing, yet someone made the effort to use the label maker to say the cable is broken. I have no words for this. Can door members please keep an eye out for people doing this (or stop doing it themselves). Can committee please approve me buying a new DAS keyboard for clownfish - there are other brands, but the DAS keyboards have outlived nearly everything else in the room. This one for $239 with $19 shipping: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/27227/das-keyboard-4-professional-mechanical-keyboard-cherry-blue Andrew Adamson bob at ucc.asn.au |"If you can't beat them, join them, and then beat them." | | ---Peter's Laws | From gozzarda at ucc.asn.au Mon Oct 23 18:00:28 2017 From: gozzarda at ucc.asn.au (gozzarda at ucc.asn.au) Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2017 18:00:28 +0800 Subject: [committee] Keyboards In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <298e36592fc79939de61645145b4461a@ucc.asn.au> My personal (if brief) experience and anecdotal evidence leads me to believe that the Das Keyboard 4 is a significantly overpriced gimmick compared to the older Das Model S that we have been using and that I use at home (I recently went out of my way to get a second Das Model S rather than a Das 4). Unfortunately it seems the Model S is not stocked by Australia retailers anymore, though it is available for just A$170 shipped from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Das-Keyboard-Professional-Mechanical-DASK3MKPROCLI/dp/B008PFABI8/ If people want to get something locally, there are a couple of much cheaper options compared to the Das 4 that still review well: https://www.ple.com.au/Products/625096/Logitech-G610-Orion-Backlit-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard-MX-Blue-Switch https://www.ple.com.au/Products/624331/Corsair-Gaming-K70-LUX-Red-Mechanical-Keyboard-MX-Blue-Switch Out of the above two I would recommend the Corsair for its unnecessarily sturdy frame and ease of cleaning. Overall I would personally recommend the Das Model S as it has served me (and UCC) well for several years now.
