TL;DR: The committee does not need to have *wheel* come in to
deal with old things,
it needs to have individual members (many of whom are on wheel),
come in and deal with the old things.
Because in general there are like 3 things that wheel actually
need kept.
And a pile of crap a very small number of people want kept for
their personal hobbies.
Hobbies that the club exists to encourage, for sure.
But personal hobbies, not wheel issues.

From a wheel perspective, there is very little we can't throw out.
There are only a couple of things that are needed for maintaining
the machines that are not utterly obvious
(Eg don't throw out the switchs we use for LANs, or machines
currently in use)
Those things are:

A small variety of serial-ish console cables, used to
interact with the Switchs

the PS2 and VGA extension leads, used to connect computers to
the KVM switch

*Tools* from the tool cupboard and/or machine room, eg The
external DVD drive, the crimping tools,

Anything beyond that, really, is not a wheel concern but rather the
concern
of individual people, who happened to be members of wheel.
And thus really can deal with it just like any other member of the
club.

Eg,

I personally feel that it would be dumb to throw out all the
currently unused rack mountable cases, because we can use them
next time we build a server.

A couple of people eg [TPG], [BOB], have a retro-computing
f̶e̶t̶i̶s̶h̶ hobby. what they do in their free time, is not
the concern of wheel.

Quiet a number of people believe we should keep the ability
to read any portable media from days gone by (eg Floppy disks).

But everyone involved feels this not because they are wheel
members but because they want the club to do well at achieving
it's objectives -- just like most members, just like committee.
The cause infact goes the other way -- they are on wheel, because
they want the club to do well.

Determining which conflicting members to listen to, and giving
action to plans is a committee problem.
It is a duty given onto the committee to use the power's of the
club, to further the clubs objectives.
