We hope that after the highly successful Fresher's Welcome, some of the freshers know who's who and now want to turn up and vote at the AGM. In brief: WHAT: UCC Annual General Meeting WHO: All financial members, if you're not a financial member, rejoin beforehand. WHEN: Tuesday, 14th March, 1PM WHERE: Guild Council Meeting Room, 2nd floor of Guildhall WHY: To hear the reports of the outgoing committee and elect a new committee for 2006 Notes on voting, nominations, et al ----------------------------------- Voting is conducted using the "N-1" system. That means, if N people are running for a position, you may vote for up to N-1 candidates. Understand that the less people you vote for, the more important your vote is. If you voted for N people your vote counts for nothing, since you gave all candidates the same advantage. The less candidates you vote for, the more advantage those candidates have over their rivals. Voting is by show of hands, everyone but the candidates themselves can see how you voted. More on the voting method will be explained by the returning officers at the meeting. Proxy voting and absentee voting are not permitted in UCC elections. Anybody may nominate anybody (including themselves) for a committee position. The returning officer will request nominations for the position of X. Each nomination requires a second from another member to be considered. A seconded nomination can then be declined by the nominee if he/she does not wish to be a considered a candidate for that position. The only exception to this nomination method is the position of FRESHER REPRESENTATIVE. All freshers who attend the meeting are automatically nominated for the position of Fresher Representative, the position of Fresher Representative is then voted by the rest of the quorum. The UCC definition of a Fresher is a first time member in their first year of university, thus by this definition someone who joined the UCC before coming to uni cannot be Fresher Rep and someone who is in their second year, but only just joined the UCC can also not be Fresher Rep. Perhaps it doesn't make sense, but them's the rules. Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow, --Davyd Madeley UCC Secretary, 2005 -- Davyd Madeley http://www.davyd.id.au/ 08B0 341A 0B9B 08BB 2118 C060 2EDD BB4F 5191 6CDA From michal at ucc.asn.au Mon Mar 13 19:57:53 2006 From: michal at ucc.asn.au (Michal Gornisiewicz) Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2006 19:57:53 +0800 Subject: [ucc-announce] UCC AGM :: TOMORROW AFTERNOON! If you voted for N people your vote counts for nothing, since That statement is false. (Not the obvious voting for N people bit.) You should not be encouraging people to vote in a particular way in an official announcement! Even more so, you should not be misleading them.
