From president at ucc.asn.au Mon Nov 1 20:04:57 2010 From: president at ucc.asn.au (Matt Didcoe) Date: Mon, 1 Nov 2010 20:04:57 +0800 Subject: [ucc-announce] Important: Changes to primary object of UCC Constitution Message-ID: Hi everyone, Please read the following which is proposed to be the primary object of the Computer Club, should all go forth with our incorporation: 1. To be an organised association of students attending The University of Western Australia, and supporters, for the advancement of computer science and technologies, both at the University and in the broader community. To advertise our intent to incorporate, the primary object needs to be finalised as the Department of Commerce look at what was advertised and what we have in our submission. For the purposes of moving this process forward, any objections to the above listed object are required by 5pm AWST Wednesday, November 3 2010. At this time, the object will be finalised and we will move forth with an ad in a newspaper yet to be determined (either The West Australian or the Western Suburbs Weekly). Objections after this time are not guaranteed consideration as if we let this drag on and on, we'll end up in the same position as we have every other time the idea of incorporation has come up. If you have an objection, please register it with the UCC Committee by emailing committee-only at ucc.asn.au. I thank everyone who has put forth opinions thus far, given the importance of the Constitution to the smooth governing of the club, it is important to have informed and thorough debate on the topic. For those about to enter the examination period, my best wishes - I hope the period will be stress free and produce satisfying results. Stay tuned for news on the UCC dinner, which is being held slightly later this year so it can be a bit more of a end-of-year/Christmas function to celebrate what has been a very challenging year for the club. Thanks, Matt Didcoe President - University Computer Club president at ucc.asn.au From bob at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au Mon Nov 8 00:00:14 2010 From: bob at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au (Bob Adamson) Date: Mon, 8 Nov 2010 00:00:14 +0800 (WST) Subject: [ucc-announce] Incorporation of UCC Message-ID: Hi everyone, For some time now, there has been discussion on the UCC mailing list about incorporating the club. This is something that has been proposed a number of times in previous years but has failed, mostly due to it being unnecessary at the time, and the amount of effort the initial process takes. The money that the club received as insurance from the hail storm has acted as somewhat of a catalyst to the process, and hence this email. There are a number of reasons for, and consequences of incorporation, most of which have been covered on the ucc@ mailing list, starting mid-October: http://lists.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/pipermail/ucc/2010-October/thread.html . I encourage anyone with concerns to first check these archives, then to ask on the committee at ucc.asn.au or ucc at ucc.asn.au lists. Amongst other things, incorporating involves modifying the club constitution to comply with the Associations Incorporation Act 1987, while maintaining our compliance with UWA statutes, the Guild regulations made thereunder, and the SOC council rules. This has involved changing and adding several sections, from the first section (Name) to the last (Dissolution). Some changes have also been made to protect UCC investments, while other changes have been made after input from past and present members to remedy ambiguities and problems with our current constitution. The following is a pdf link to the most recent draft: http://bob.ucc.asn.au/draft_constitution_2_2.pdf Given the magnitude of the changes proposed, I strongly suggest all members read the draft and have at least a basic understanding of what incorporation will mean for the club. Once the constitution is (mostly) agreed upon, Committee will announce a Special General Meeting where (hopefully) the members will vote to incorporate and adopt the constitution amendments. I've done my absolute best to ensure that the draft is error free, so please let us know if you find any mistakes. Finally, all the best to everyone going into exams! As always, stay tuned to twitter.com/ucc_status for further updates. * Mussel / Mylah / Maraena will be going down for a hardware upgrade. This will take a bunch of stuff offline: /away, /services, the website, the IRC server, etc. This may take up to an hour and wil probably be started at around 11pm. * IPv6 routing - as detailed in http://lists.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/pipermail/tech/2010-November/003942.html Thanks for your understanding.
