From mattman at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au Mon Jan 3 13:23:43 2011 From: mattman at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au (Matt Didcoe) Date: Mon, 3 Jan 2011 13:23:43 +0800 Subject: [ucc-announce] Seasonal wishes, downtime and request for donations Message-ID: Hi everyone, Seasonal wishes ------------------------- A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. 2010 was an interesting year, filled with it's share of problems (storm) and victories (free internet, insurance payout). I'm hoping 2011 will be an even better year for the club - Committee are already working on some plans and David Adam has kindly put together a member survey that you will all be hearing about in the next week. I would encourage you all to provide responses (meaningful ones!) so that we can get a good sense of what you feel we're doing right (and wrong, so we can fix it). Downtime -------------- This coming Friday, January 7 2011, all UCC services will be offline for scheduled hardware and software works. Exact timing is still being worked out, so I recommend keeping an eye on IRC (irc.ucc.asn.au/#ucc) and UCC status (http://twitter.com/ucc_status). Martello and Mussel will be having distro upgrades while Mooneye gets moved to some more reliable (and hopefully cooler) hardware. Request for Donations -------------------------------- While I'm annoying you all, back in December, an upgrade of Martello was approved by the Committee. While UCCs financial position is strong, we would appreciate donations from any interested member (large or small, every bit counts!). If you're interested, please email newmartello at ucc with your name and how much you'd like to give, along with your preferred payment method (we accept direct debit, cash or coke credit). I hope to see many of you around the club as Semester 1 rapidly approaches. Cheers, Matt Didcoe [MRD] 2010 President mattman at ucc From mattman at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au Fri Jan 14 22:42:12 2011 From: mattman at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au (Matt Didcoe) Date: Fri, 14 Jan 2011 22:42:12 +0800 Subject: [ucc-announce] UCC Member Survey Message-ID: Hi everyone, [TRS] suggested that we survey our members to find out what sort of people make up UCC and how they feel about the club. Needless to say, we thought it was an excellent idea! [DAA]* has very kindly put together a series of questions that we hope will gather some useful information that the Committee will be able to take and action in time for Semester 1 2011. The survey can be found at http://www.ucc.asn.au/member/survey - it goes without saying that we'd appreciate your responses to be serious and honest so we can make any necessary changes :) Thanks, Matt [MRD] -- Matt Didcoe President, University Computer Club mattman at ucc.asn.au * And while I'm in such a public forum, I'd again like to thank David for his contribution to the club - especially recently - for those who aren't aware, David left yesterday for five months in Albany working as a "real" doctor. Last week however, David prepared this survey and ran a large part of the server upgrades on Friday. The beginning of term quickly approaches, so why not start this year off by attending a LAN and brushing up your skills, ready for this year's influx of Freshers. Could you please RSVP to lan at ucc as soon as possible with your interest, so we have an idea of how many want to attend. What: UCC LAN When: 7PM Saturday 5th of February - 8AM Sunday 6th of February Where: Cameron Hall Loft Games: Team Fortress 2, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (Hosted at UCC), Freelancer (Hosted at UCC), Borderlands, and whatever else you want! Cost: Usual arrangement, free for UCC members, $5 for non members (bring some money for pizza) Feel free to arrive around 6PM to get set up, and order Pizza before the LAN starts.
