A friend is looking for someone who is prepared to do some part-time VMS
Systems Administration.

The system is an Alpha 2100-500 with 13 GB disk and 256 MB RAM running
OpenVMS 7.1-2.
It only runs one application (based on RDB v.6) and has approximately 100 users
who access the app via telnet.

The workload includes some 'scheduled' components:
- monitoring the integrity and performance of the system
- ensuring backups are happenning
- check printer queues
- etc.

and 'on-call' support in case problems arise:
- manage user accounts
- kill 'hung' user processes
- restore stuff from backups
- etc.

He needs someone who can look at a problem within say 2 hours and can
either fix or provide problem diagnosis within another two hours.

My guess is that under normal circumstances there is only about 5 to 6
hours of work per week involved.

99% of tasks could be performed from off-site.

The person should be reliable and have some VMS system admin experience
including knowledge of DCL (which is the VMS shell scripting language),
maybe some knowledge of Oracle/DEC RDB.

Mail me if you are interested or know someone who is.

 Regards,
