Message-ID: <20061122030656.GA1796@ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au> Hi everyone, Okay, so we had an AGM, exams are now over for those of us that had them, and with the shutdown coming up there is both more and less time to do things. The O-Day forms are released, and due soon. If we want a decent spot with the sort of exposure we want, we're going to have to get in pretty quick; If we wait till the due date we'll be crammed out of the way again, which isn't going to help even if we are blasting 'leet tun3z. The aim is to get stuff narrowcasting in *some* way, preferrably over radio, by O-Day. If we can make a big spash at O-Day, we can get dozens, or even hundreds of members, which means we will have funding to do more stuff. Stuff that needs to be followed up on from the AGM: o Office Bears form for the guild Frenchie, we just need you to fill out as the last exec member, and then drop this in to the guild office (or tell me to). It's sitting in my UCC pidgeon hole. o Web page Alwynn, were you still going to hook us up with a designated contact person? If not, we'll pass it off to someone else (or me) to talk to the guild one... o Podcasting Anyone got any ideas for content on this? ANYTHING we can put together without worrying about copyright would be good o APRA Anyone want to look on APRAs site or call them and ask about fees for a narrow-cast station? The thing to keep in mind when calling is that we'll be a NARROWCAST service with a strictly limited audience, and that the vast majority of our content will not be copyrighted. o Narrowcast radio licence Just looking briefly, we don't actually have to apply through any process to be a narrowcast provider, but if we're going to use radio as a medium, we're going to have to get an apparatus licence. Apparatus licencing is an absolute piece of piss to get; If you fit the requirements, you basically pay a fee per year, and you get a bit of paper saying it's legal. I'll look again at the specifics (I last did it a year ago) on the ACMA web site, but it would be good if someone could do the same (including going through the Radiocommunications Act, the Narrowcast Class Licencing Determination, The Apparatus Licencing Determination and anything else on the site) if they have too much spare time, if only to make sure they're getting the same read on it as me. The upshot is that this should be easier than we thought, and probably won't cost that much. We don't want to depend on it being in place for O-Day, but it would be something to work towards o Clubroom / Studio We need space. Have asked Mark about possibilities, but it's not that easy, and everyone's getting ready for the shutdown over Xmas etc. At absolute worst we could stream the feed from people's houses all the time, and beg transmitter space in UCC's machine room, but this is going to be harder than having permanent space where stuff will JustWork after it's up and running. The RF coming out of the UCC is also just hellish. Is there anyone with time, and moderate idea about Uni internal politics to be able to havec a look into this further? I'd ask the guild, but there are established clubs looking for even cupboard space that have been waiting for years... o Sponsership If someone can spell it, and has any ideas, go for it o Membership O-Day will probably be our biggest chance for this, and getting our name out there. For the next month or so, we probably can do with interested people that want to do stuff though. Anyone you know with interest, especially with enthusiasm to do stuff, get them joined up. o Treasurer books, documents and stuff I have a pile of stuff, includng the membership forms, cards etc (I think) here. Susie, do you still have the books to hand over to Alwyn? Anything i've forgotten, let me know.
