<div dir="ltr">So, here are some dot points about why I think we're coming a bit unstuck on offense:<div><br></div><div>- our offences tend to be some variation on swinging the ball fairly shallowly around the perimeter, without getting too deep, while Accy and I run around the keyway area and generally have a hard time getting into a good position to receive the ball (and, if we do receive it, have few options)</div><div>- several people on our team aren't able to, or aren't confident enough to, create their own shot (i.e. shoot something that isn't a catch-and-shoot jumpshot). we only have 2 or 3 players who can reliably dribble the ball and then finish around the hoop, and even then it happens very sporadically because of the general limitations in how we space our offence. this causes us to play a very passive, reactionary style</div><div>- the above two points lead me to believe we need an offense that moves every player on the team through the keyway, in a meaningful, you-might-get-the-ball-once-you're-there kind of way</div><div>- EVERY TEAM is now playing a box-and-chase on me. we need to decide how we're going to deal with this. it needs to involve screens and taking advantage of the fact that we should be able to get a player open to receive a pass very, very easily</div><div>- In general, we need to set more screens</div><div>- People need to learn the principles of where to cut under various circumstances (I'm here, they're there, the ball is there, so I need to cut THERE). the steps of the offensive set are only half of it, once we break from the set through a drive or a dish to the post, people need to know where to move to provide the best support</div><div>- More fakes/dribbles/anything to make defenders commit and open up passing lanes, but then the cut has to happen (see previous point) and the pass has to be quick and on point</div><div>- More bounce passes</div><div><br></div><div>I'd like to implement a new offense where the two bigs move between the high post, low post and deep corner, while the three wings move between the point, the two 45s and the high post, with plenty of cuts to the hoop anytime we feed the post. I'll take people through the general idea of it before the game. It should also involve screens but we'll get the basics down first. I am 100% open to other suggestions for offensive sets.</div><div><br></div><div>When we don't phone it in, our principles on defense and rebounding are pretty solid. Although we need to practice playing alternate defenses, particularly man to man.</div><div><br></div><div>Any thoughts?
