Subject: [clubs] Advertising Information
Greetings to all, and welcome to 2005.
I'm Dave de Hoog the Guild's Information Officer for 2005, and I'm
attempting to co-ordinate communications both within the Guild machine,
and between the Guild and the wider student body. What follows is a
brief outline of a communications strategy which should be relatively
efficient, and effective.
WHAT IS IT ?
------------
Each week I'll be producing "The Informulator", a two-part article named
in honour of the rather grandiose whiteboard opposite the Guild Hall
Student Centre. The first part of the article will outline the projects
on which the Guild have been working (e.g. assessment reports and VSU
campaigning). The second part of the article will be a short listing of
events run by Guild affiliated clubs, societies, publications and
departments.
The article will be published in several locations:
- Coming Events will be published in the Silver Guilder, on G-News, on
the Informulator whiteboard, within a noticeboard in the Guild, and on
the University Website.
- Past events will appear in G-News and on the Informulator whiteboard
and in the Silver Guilder.
HOW CAN YOU HELP ?
----------------
To advertise your club events and AGMs, please fill in the calendar
sheets that are affixed to the wall on the first floor of Guild Hall,
then use our new web-based template:
http://www.guild.uwa.edu.au/soc/newevent
to submit the details for advertising.
We need to know:
- the name of club or society
- the name of the event
- date, time, location
- cost (incl. when/where tickets are on sale)
- public contact info (phone, e-mail, website,
name of contact person)
- a 10-word summary of the event suitable for publicity
- a blurb, so I can give it a decent wrap
Weekly events should be resubmitted each week. Clubs whose
advertising requirements don't fit into the template can
contact events at guild.uwa.edu.au to make other arrangements.
Your submission will be disseminated to all the appropriate Guild
publications, like Silver Guilder, G-News, Pelican and Informulator,
so you no longer need to contact all those locations separately.
PS. If you haven't used the calendar sheets before, they're stuck to the
wall facing you as you come up the stairs to the first-floor landing.
WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT ?
---------------------------
- Free community-wide publicity on the UWA Website (VERY well accessed)
- Ads in Guild publications as required by SOC
- The ability to plan your events to maximise attendance, by limiting
clashes with other clubs and societies
- Extra publicity for the fantastic events run by Soc and PAC clubs
- A monthly timetable of events at each PAC and Soc meeting to
facilitate event planning.
CONCLUSION
----------
That is a lot to digest, and I will come and explain it in person at the
first Soc and PAC meeting. I'll also take questions, and suggestions for
improvement :)
I really need your co-operation to make this work, but the better the
response, the better the publicity. So please, fill my inbox with
details of the fantastic events run by clubs and societies at UWA !
Feel free to contact me to discuss the strategy, this is the proposed
strategy for Semester 1, but I'd love to improve it for Semester 2.
Cheers, and I'll see everyone at the first Soc/PAC meeting on Tuesday,
9 March at 6pm !
