After this time it should be fine; I'm just finishing up my committment to Business School. If I juggle my SISO hours I might be able to free up the 1pm Tuesday slot - we'll see. This is James French's responsibility; he said he's been trying to catch up with Danica. I edited the sponsorship letter a bit and passed it back to him. There's a copy available at http://zanchey.ucc.asn.au/pub/qnight-sponsor.rtf - you're welcome to reject or accept the changes as you see fit. The main thing we're concerned about is treading on each other's toes WRT asking sponsors more than once. Again, Frenchie is co-ordinating this. If there's anything I can do to help, please ask. Tickets need to be signed by a committee member of either club upon purchase. Should we extend this to CCC? Are we keeping the monies separate? Yes. I got this in my lunch break as promised (apologies for not emailing). Managed not to get things wet. I just wanted to again thank everyone who was involved in the quiz night tonight. From where I sat, hurling abuse at the judges table and drinking heavily, it went really well, and just about everyone I spoke to was having a great time. We're not done yet, of course, and I'm sure Emma and Frenchie/Sam will be finalising the financials when they have a chance. Additionally, after a quick discussion at the end of the night, I think we all agreed there's a few things we'll be doing differently next year. I took a leaf out of [PXY]'s book, and, rather than making love to someone tonight I set up a Wiki (page) to keep track of our suggestions. http://wiki.ucc.asn.au/QuizNightFeedback (You don't need to be a UCC member to edit things on our Wiki. Be aware that several people are automatically notified of changes, so please keep your comments appropriate for a semi-public area.) Thanks again, and I'm sure next year's will be bigger (although 100 people was pretty damn good) and even better. There were loads of people, many of whom enjoyed the night, and both clubs will have a happy profit. I think the combined UniSFA-UCC quiz night is going to be an awesome addition to the Cameron Hall calendar. The main problem was LOL INTERCLUB COMMUNICATION (hell, both clubs have LOL INTRACLUB COMMUNICATION, so I suppose it was to be expected). Easily fixed for next year: have Jen not go into hospital. Also may want to think about designated Nedland crashing places for drunk motorcyclists. =S Pen From velithya at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au Sat Aug 26 08:10:25 2006 From: velithya at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au (Jen McCutcheon) Date: Sat, 26 Aug 2006 08:10:25 +0800 (WST) Subject: [committee] quiz night In-Reply-To: <2dfe335b0608250945v576a6a1w72cb2aebcf00a64b@mail.gmail.com> References: <2dfe335b0608250945v576a6a1w72cb2aebcf00a64b@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: I think I have all of the unsold tickets. We're looking at offering the service to commercial campus tenants as 1M/1M (with up to 100M/100M to UWA) with a nominal 30GB download limits (after which time, more shaping) for around $50-60/month. I suspect for the UCC, at $75/month we'd remove the download limits and provide one public IP (and campus VLAN) and would do 1:1 port mapping from the public IP to an internal one if we were asked nicely. We'd probably want about $100 from any commercial tenants using this sort of service. Additional services we'd accept money for include public IP addresses and greater speeds. Herein specifically lay the points UCC can negotiate on, if they desire. -- Alex Dawson IT Security Manager, University of Western Australia 08 6488 7093 - alex.dawson at uwa.edu.au From davyd at madeley.id.au Mon Aug 28 10:31:17 2006 From: davyd at madeley.id.au (Davyd Madeley) Date: Mon, 28 Aug 2006 10:31:17 +0800 Subject: [committee] UCC's Uwa.net.au connection In-Reply-To: References: <20060828012411.GA19508@bridgewayconsulting.com.au> Message-ID: <20060828023117.GB19508@bridgewayconsulting.com.au> On Mon, Aug 28, 2006 at 09:41:08AM +0800, Alex Dawson wrote: > On 28/8/06 9:24 AM, "Davyd Madeley" wrote: > > > > >> However, the time now comes that the system is moving into production, and > >> we desire some money for it. At the request of the Library, ITS are looking to more closely align presence on 130.95.0.0/16 with the University. This means staff, students and to an extent, alumni. What this means in practical terms is that, in the future, we'd rather those 130.95.13.0/24 IPs weren't used to host servers or provide Internet access for people not in any of those three permitted classes. As far as just being used for desktop system IPs, this alone isn't an issue. Ideally, webpages of non-qualifying users should not be hosted on there either, but I do realise the technical issues this would bring up. -- Alex Dawson IT Security Manager, University of Western Australia 08 6488 7093 - alex.dawson at uwa.edu.au From davyd at madeley.id.au Mon Aug 28 11:11:00 2006 From: davyd at madeley.id.au (Davyd Madeley) Date: Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:11:00 +0800 Subject: [committee] UCC's Uwa.net.au connection In-Reply-To: References: <20060828023117.GB19508@bridgewayconsulting.com.au> Message-ID: <20060828031100.GF19508@bridgewayconsulting.com.au> On Mon, Aug 28, 2006 at 10:49:33AM +0800, Alex Dawson wrote: > On 28/8/06 10:31 AM, "Davyd Madeley" wrote: > > > > Obviously the UCC would also need to keep its existing /24, but this > > is covered by our existing agreement with ITS. > > > > This should not be an issue, however in the future (not right now) we would > like to clarify what it can be used for. As far as just being > used for desktop system IPs, this alone isn't an issue. It seems to be, the balance to be struck here is things that might be classed as 'academic pursuits'. Take for example, our hosting of the source code and website for Linux Software Suspend. Most of the people interacting with this server (interacting meaning accessing in some form) are not part of UWA, yet I feel this is a reasonable service for the UCC to be providing. Giving something back to the community (of some academic value too) that I think aligns well with the goals of a university. There are other local community services we provide (eg. a bur.st nameserver), which could possibly be moved directly onto UCC servers. Other non-UCC services should be covered case by case. > Ideally, webpages of non-qualifying users should not be hosted on there > either, but I do realise the technical issues this would bring up. I would estimate that 95% of our member base are either current students or alumni. An additional 4% are students of other West Australian universities. I have mostly up to date member records that could be used to find real numbers. Speaking as a member, I think the University should be proud of the UCC as a body of students. In this day of full fee paying students who treat the University like a degree factory, the UCC consists of a body of dedicated members who for the most part are doing the thing you're meant to be doing at a university: learning for yourself. The UCC has produced some incredibly bright people, who are now spread around the globe, doing some incredibly complex jobs. These people, with a UWA degree on their resume, bring prestidge to the university, something which every Australian university could do with in the world arena. --d -- Davyd Madeley http://www.davyd.id.au/ 08B0 341A 0B9B 08BB 2118 C060 2EDD BB4F 5191 6CDA From trs80 at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au Mon Aug 28 11:22:03 2006 From: trs80 at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au (James Andrewartha) Date: Mon, 28 Aug 2006 11:22:03 +0800 (WST) Subject: [committee] UCC's Uwa.net.au connection In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: On Mon, 28 Aug 2006, Alex Dawson wrote: > What this means in practical terms is that, in the future, we'd rather those > 130.95.13.0/24 IPs weren't used to host servers or provide Internet access > for people not in any of those three permitted classes. I was planning on moving http://*.ucc.asn.au to the bright link, and while ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/~nonuwauser would still work, we can strongly encourage people to promote nonuwauser.ucc.asn.au only. As for internet access, this will be a bit harder since the socks sever contains nasty luyer hacks, but given the bright link will provide free net access for the main users (non-UWA students) I don't see a huge problem in disabling it. As for download limits, it's hard to say a priori just how much we will use. As you've already said we will have access until the end of September, would it be possible to get the port forwards and everything else set up for September, and then we can get some real figures to negotiate on. Yes. Three phase power is the "easy" bit. We can always "get" three phase power. We first need to make sure its worth getting. Message-ID: Hello! Maybe you can explain me what's going on? My name is Anne Forbes, since recent times I've been working online for a company, which has a site www.transfer-express.biz. I performed financial transactions consisted in receiving and transferring money into different payment systems. When I read notifications from company about new tasks, in the letter's recipients list were more than one e-mail, including yours: paul at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au. Maybe you are also member of the company? The last received order was to receive large amount of money (40000 USD) transferred on my Bank of America account. However, the task wasn't completely fulfilled. Those properties given by the company, turned out to be closed for some reason. I wanted to write in Support service, but to my great surprise, the site of this organization is not available now, and e-mail sends back letters. I think you are somehow related to the company and will be able to help me. I responsibly performed my duties and am willing to work again. In the attachment I wrote the details of received payment, fed ware, and properties, given for sending. I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.
