I do think the UCC was cooler when a new member would find all sorts
of interesting, bordering-on-bizarre machines to play with. When I
joined some of the most useful machines were the BeOS and NeXT
workstations, just because they had web browsers and seemed quite
fast. Seems a shame that sort of neat kit which you'd not find at
home, work or elsewhere on campus has vanished..

.. but it's no longer all that useful, and doesn't serve a need that
people actually hanging about in the clubroom have. I guess we should
more lament the lack of neat, cool innovation producing new
equivalents of the BeBox and whatever.

Do these crazy rebel operating systems and hardware platforms exist?
Can we get our hands on them? That'd actually be interesting;
something new and cool and up-and-coming. It'd be a shame to think
that all there is out there is WIndows, Linux and MacOS!
