I just doored Sam Spencer after he insisted on constantly unplugging the

We have another SOC meeting coming up so if there's anything people would 
like raised with the Guild, now would be a good time to let Committee know 
:-)

I'm going to raise the bottom door and the continual damaging of the 
bolts, plus the rekeying of Cameron Hall ([BOB] raised the very valid 
point that a key is missing and we don't want any more breakin trouble - 
UWA policy is apparently to rekey - I haven't confirmed this myself, but 
it sounds right...not to mention logical if a key's AWOL)

It would also be good if, after the rekey, clubs on Level 2 could have one 
key each to the top door, plus one to the main doors. Unsure what the 
Guild's feeling on this will be...an easier system for getting approval to 
stay after 11pm and on weekends would also be nice (but also a probably 
unlikely change).

Anything else people want raised with the Guild/SOC? (UCC/Cameron Hall 
related of course :P)

Here is the link for UWA's policy on keys, which I'm assuming the guild

Given the security problems we've had, I think we need to make a fuss 
about a key being unaccounted for.

I've mentioned this to a few people, but what I think the committee should 
be doing is inviting the Guild and SOC presidents up to Cameron Hall 
during the day so that they get an idea of what the clubrooms get used 
for.

We've seen it with successive Guild officials - they often have no idea we 
even use the clubroom during the day, never mind how popular it is. Teeing 
up with UniSFA, Unigames and UWAnime would make sense and was quite 
effective last year.

With the changes that I expect will be coming to clubrooms in the near 
future, it is important to have the Guild aware of the unique requirements 
of the Cameron Hall clubs.

There was some discussion of this on #ucc last Sunday which I won't 
summarise, but I did come across

Just a quick email as Bob has asked me to clarify my request for terminal
services licenses for Maaxen.

For those not aware, Microsoft's server platforms allow two simultaneous
remote users out of the box without TS licenses. I'd like to see maaxen
put to use as a terminal server for people who want remote windows access to
UCC (why? - a question I leave to them to answer).

Another nice feature would be that we could possibly also add Windows as an
option to the LTSP thinterms which would mean they'd get more use from
people wanting to do work/write software/whatever on a windows box without
having to fight people for a games capable machine.

It's entirely up to the committee, but it'd be nice if someone could have a
look at what the pricing is, and/or see if we can't weedle a little more out
of Microsoft to make the box a little more useful (although they've already
been generous). I'm happy enough to shoot Deborah Youd an email and chase
down what ITS would charge us (although Matt may already have that info). If
we were to chase Microsoft, it might be better if someone on the committee
approaches them.

As I've discussed on tech, I don't think Active Directory is all that good
an idea for UCC as we tend to have too many chefs in the kitchen. Our other
options would be hosting windows only services (freelancer anyone) and
enforcing idle session timeouts etc to divy up the two RDP sessions.

I don't really mind one way or the other, but it'd be nice if the committee
had a chat and worked out what they want to happen with this box :)

Ps. At the moment, 2008R2 is in the same boat as Windows 7 with the lack of
workingness with samba, that may enter into your decision.

Hail, benevolent overloads!

If any of the desktop machines are damaged, ITS has a whole host of old
machines waiting to be recycled which we can nab. Perhaps more usefully,
there are also plenty of spare monitors and peripherals.

Once we have a clubroom again and an equipment damage report we just need to
get onto ITS (which I'm happy to do).

They are, but the intended use is as a disk backup (perhaps using 
rdiff-backup) that's accessed once a day. Since it's either in use lots 
during the backup or not at all at other times, the suckage is limited.
