In particular, incorporation will require the club to: - advertise its intention to incorporate in a local newspaper; - adopt 'rules' which comply with the Associations Incorporation Act 1987 (ie. ensure the constitution complies); - adopt proper auditable accounting records (s 25 AIA87); - provide those records to members at the AGM (s 26 AIA87); and - pay a $126 application fee (which does not guarantee that the application will be accepted). A more comprehensive guide to incorporation is available here (PDF ~800kb): http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/associationsguide/PDF/Publications/Inc%20Guide%20-%20June%202010.pdf I'm not suggesting that incorporation is a bad idea -- especially since Westpac seem to have opened a bank account in UCC's name assuming it is incorporated -- but if the committee wants to go ahead with it someone needs to take responsibility for these tasks. We will also need to improve our handover training to deal with the books properly. > - provide those records to members at the AGM (s 26 AIA87); and > - pay a $126 application fee (which does not guarantee that the > application will be accepted). > A more comprehensive guide to incorporation is available here (PDF ~800kb): > http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/associationsguide/PDF/Publications/Inc%20Guide%20-%20June%202010.pdf > > I'm not suggesting that incorporation is a bad idea -- especially > since Westpac seem to have opened a bank account in UCC's name > assuming it is incorporated -- but if the committee wants to go ahead > with it someone needs to take responsibility for these tasks. This ^ is the other reason we really need to incorporate. It's only a matter of time before Westpac notices this (most likely at the next handover) and we need to remedy it. Not being incorporated is also causing us problems in opening things like paypal accounts. It's fairly trivial, we just have to register as an affiliate of the guild with Unimutual. This won't cost us anything and is fairly simple to do. We will then be covered by the guilds insurance policy. Bob
