In their minds, yes - and that's the idea. We have a markup on drinks and 
snacks of approx 40%, so the goods cost to the club is ~$3.60. We also get 
~$1.90 back from the guild per guild member, so in reality a new member 
costs us ~$1.70. The number of guild members we have also factors into 
how much we get in semester 1 and 2 soc grants, so the more members the 
merrier. A non-guild fresher still pays $10, so nothing lost there.

On the other hand, I firmly believe that the losses can be more than 
offset by freshers who stick around longer. $5 will be enough of an 
incentive to get freshers to sign up, go up to the clubroom, activate 
their accounts, and then come back more than once. We get them hooked so 
to speak.
