Meeting closed 18:48 [SLX] Standard Time [*OX] : a fairly long time member has has come to me, and expressed conserns that UCC is becoming more and more elitist, and unfriendly to its members. Particular concerns: - the club now has less gaming machines than when he joined, (may or may not be due to member machines leaving), but more machines. - Quote: "Getting on Coke and Door seems harder than ever, and god help you if you want to get on winadmin." - I think part of this is the technical questions on LOLDOG, seriously what are they there for. Door is a purely social role. - UCC is hostile: quote "People are playing [computer] games in Unigames and the loft, because they don't want to be in UCC." - UCC isn't nice to its members, and is very cliquey - Quote: "It's like you can't get any respect unless you can code a kernal in Vi." Speaking only for myself as an alumnus member, I stopped going to UCC because freshers playing computer games monopolised the whole room. God forbid UCC should be more than a permanent LAN party. One of our projects (http://www.datsbananas.com) runs weekly photo contests with quirky themes, which is why I am reaching out to you. We would like to host a specialized theme contest for your club and its members as well as provide prizes to the contest winner. Since the website is new and we are really just looking to build a community, there is *no cost or catch* on your end. There is also no commitment or contract. At any time you may decide that you no longer wish to participate without any penalties. The contest details would be the following: * Your logo and a link to your club would be featured as the contest "sponsor." * A minimum number of five (5) of your members would submit images to the themed contest. * The contest images would be judged by the public via our "Ripe" and "Rotten" system. * A prize will be presented at the end of the contest to the first place winner and we will provide the prize. * Submission/voting time periods, the first place prize, and the contest theme itself will be fully disclosed to you before the contest launch. We are willing to discuss and make changes where necessary to ensure everybody has a good contest experience. * The contest itself will also be open to the public to encourage competitiveness. * Please note that images uploaded directly to the site will be watermarked. Images hosted elsewhere can also be submitted via a URL to the image and they will not be watermarked or modified. The normal items can be dealt with pretty quickly if everyone keeps their reports short, and we can get the machine technical reports (which need doing: meersau is in some superposition of up and down states) and reimbursements put through quickly, and then get to the big issues at the end. Given these issues will fill whatever time we give them, let's leave them to the end so that other things are not forgotten. On the bright side, we might get the winadmin policy we clearly desperately need out of this. -- David On Tue, 14 Aug 2012, Jeremy Cole wrote: > We could deal with the other items via email voting... > > On 14/08/2012, at 11:35 AM, John Hodge wrote: > >> Vote against - These discussions could take quite a long time, it's better to get the normal items out of the way before we get deep into the discussions. >> >> On Mon, 13 Aug 2012, Jeremy Cole wrote: >> >>> Seconded and Voting for >>> >>> M12 >>> >>> On 13/08/2012, at 10:53 PM, Lyndon White wrote: >>> >>>> I would like to suggest a procedural motion that we postpone the normal reports, review of action items etc until after we discuss the 3 "big issues": Complaint about committee, complaints about the incrowd attitude, and *the camp.* >>>> Not nesc in that order.
