Morning all,

We've received an offer to swap an apparently working C2D 2.4 GHz 1U IBM
server with 2 hard drives for a standard ATX case, or to donate said server
if we can't arrange a case swap. More details are below.

Do we need another server? More importantly, do we want another server? Keep
in mind that it's not a standard build and so replacing components would
potentially be tricky.

Thoughts?

Subject: Offer to donate core2duo server

Hello Conrad,

Former member of UCC here...

Not sure if you are the right person to ask, but anyway:
I have a Core2Duo (Intel e4600, 2.4Ghz) IBM server in my possession (IBM
x3250, 1U rack mount), worth about $300. Fully working, with 2 160Gb Sata
7200rpm hard drives. I was going to use it as a home server, but the noise
is slightly higher than I can stand (65dB).

I was thinking of fitting the motherboard to a standard ATX case, but the
mounting holes and heatsink are proprietary (something like a cross between
ATX and BTX), which would result in a rather complicated build.

I was thinking, would you be interested in swapping the server for an old
ATX case with a PSU (if you have one lying around...)?
Alternatively, would you be interested in getting the thing as a donation?

Thanks.
Best Regards,
Nick Kostylev
