I am hoping you will be able to assist with sharing amongst your members the opportunities available both within Coal and Metals. The Glencore Graduate Program is a 2 year fixed term program, supported by a structured professional development program. Opportunities exist in our Glencore Coal Assets business in QLD and NSW, and Glencore Copper/Zinc Assets in QLD and NT, based regionally on our mine-sites. Applications are currently open and will close 15th April 2018. It is important for students to be aware that in order to apply for both Coal and Copper /Zinc programs they will need to submit separate applications to each of these vacancies. Applications for the Glencore Vacation Program will open on the 16th April 2018. Our paid vacation program is designed to give students an opportunity to experience the industry, live in a regional community and develop valuable skills during the university break from December to February. Glencore assists students with accommodation and travel to site during this program. Attached is further information regarding these programs. Students who perhaps aren't ready to apply this year are encouraged to register for a 'Job Alert Profile' to ensure they are alerted, via email, to Glencore job opportunities that match their interests. The 'Job Alert Profile' can be accessed via the Glencore careers website (Glencore | Job Alert Profile). If there are any queries please direct questions to graduates at glencore.com.au. My name is Justin Leong and I am one of your 2018 Relay for Life Club and FacSoc Officers. You will be hearing from both Harry Do and myself in the lead up to Relay in October this year. For those of you that have not heard of Relay before, it is a 24-hour event run every year here at UWA. Members of the UWA community sign up in teams and run/walk a relay around Oak Lawn through the night to raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Council. These funds help the Cancer Council to provide services and support to people battling with cancer as well as their carers and families. It is a chance to have a fun weekend with friends, a chance to stand in solidarity with carers and survivors, and a chance to reflect on the ways that cancer has affected the lives of each and every one of us. Relay will be on weekend of the *13**th** ? 14**th** October* this year so mark it down in your diaries. Until then there are a few things to get around: 1) *Start Signing Up Your Teams *? We want to make this Relay the biggest, best and most inclusive ever! Get your committee, friends and members together and register. We are currently offering discounted registration (only $20). If you want to collaborate with another club, just let us know and we?ll hook you up. ( goo.gl/UWA18 ) Relay is an opportunity to engage people in your society that aren?t in the inner circle of your club. We encourage you to make a wide call for participants in your social media and newsletters to spread the Relay love and help us make Relay for Life a special event for each and every UWA community member this year. There is no minimum size for teams, so even if there is a small interest in the event within your group, you can still sign up a team. 2) *Relay Quiz Night *(3rd May, Timing :7.30pm, Venue: UWA Tavern) ? Relay at UWA is holding a Quiz night this year to launch the Relay year. Get your teams of 8 people together for this night of fun, games and top notch banter. ( https://www.facebook.com/events/174970969820461/ ) 3) *Biggest Morning Tea* (24th May, Event information: TBC)- Relay at UWA?s Biggest Morning Tea allows different teams to come together, selling baked goods and savoury food items to raise money for Relay. All funds raised will go directly to your Relay Team?s total. More information will be released closer to the event. 3) *Start raising money*! ? Every dollar your club raises goes towards helping Australians that are fighting cancer and their loved ones. If you ever want help with ideas for fundraising, or engaging your members please don?t hesitate to get in touch with us. We will have a fortnightly stall set up from 1pm-2pm on Mondays at Oak Lawn. We will also be contactable via email and Facebook. 4) *Event Help- *The Relay Committee is offering its services to help run BBQs at YOUR events throughout the year. If you are having a party or an outdoor event and need a helping hand with running BBQs, send us an email and we will book you in. As long as you get the BBQ and food sorted, we will be there to run it for you. All proceeds from the BBQs will be added to your team?s total tally. If there is a specific contact in your committee that you would like us to correspond with, please get back to us with their contact email and CC them in to the response, and we will liaise with them. Similarly, if you have any questions in the lead up to the event please feel free to get in touch with Harry or myself on relayuwa.teamreg at gmail.com or via Facebook message and we?ll do our best to help you out. Have a great day! -- Kind Regards, --- Serina Luong, Justin Leong & Harry Do Team Registration Officer | Club & Faculty Society Officers *Celebrate. Remember. As for "alternate camp activities" - I applaud you trying to broaden the camp to include tech talks and such, and it's what I tried to do for a few years after we resurrected the camp. Unfortunately, this turned out to be really hard, largely because the camp requires minimum numbers to run (due to venue costs), meaning that gaming had to be a major part of it in order for the event to run at all. It has been a couple of years since I've been to camp, but in the last year I went it had basically become just a big LANing weekend. Events like RFLAN do this a lot better. I don't see an easy way of changing this in the current camp format - UCC camp doesn't lend itself very well to tech talks or hacking style events. Hacking style events are particularly hard to run due to the lack of tools, benches, and computers with the appropriate software. Tech talks tend not to happen because most of the people who can give them aren't at the camp. What I've been pondering for some time is a ticketed, BarCamp style event, run over a weekend (preferably a long weekend) in the UCC clubroom and the loft. We could have a decent amount of workshops - long enough to actually learn and accomplish something. Scheduled tech talks throughout the weekend, with other projects hacking throughout the day. People go home at night, keeping accomodation and food costs low. If only 10 people come, this is not a problem. Ticket prices could cover lunches, membership for anyone who comes and is not a member, and maybe a cheap dev board or other hardware. Would anyone be willing to pursue such an event? Thoughts/comments?
