Hi Felix,
I'm sorry to hear that. I will also be attending that meeting to see how we can help clubs gain more attendance for their events. Currently we are running 4 SLT sessions in January, February, April and May. At this stage we most likely won't add anymore, however I'm planning to have some of the training online so that students can do it anytime that suits them and they won't have to sit in a room for 2 full days. Hopefully that helps!
Cheers,
Leigh Chalmers

Subject: Cancelling UCC Camp 2019
Hi Leigh,
Just wanted to let you know that we will be cancelling UCC Camp this year.
Unfortunately we weren't able to find a second camp event manager,
amidst a general lack of attendees and other volunteers to staff the
event. It seems also that our BBQ stalls would have been better run
before the end of semester, although we did get a few signups as a result.
One problem which I believe was significant in this case was that there
was only a single Student Leadership Training session between the start
of Semester 1 and the start of the winter break. Many clubs, including
UCC, have their AGM in March or otherwise at the beginning of the year,
and thus it is difficult to ensure that enough people will have done the
training since it comes at quite short notice (especially if people
already have made plans for the study break). I understand that there is
another session scheduled for the week before the start of Semester 2,
however that is not at all useful for clubs wishing to run events during
the winter break.
I would like to suggest that in future years, the Guild makes an effort
to schedule more Student Leadership Training sessions after the start of
Semester 1 or and at the beginning of semester breaks (ie. one session
immediately after exams, instead of before the start of Sem. 2) so as
not to put clubs which have AGMs early in the year at a greater
disadvantage.
Furthermore, club engagement and event attendance has been quite poor in
general. I'm looking forward to meeting with SOC to discuss (I believe
they are planning to organise a meeting of some sort in the near
future), and any tips you may have would be very welcome.
Thanks for your consideration.
Best regards,
Felix von Perger
UCC President
