[committee] Update from the Ex-President

Hi all,

It would seem that there are a number of current matters which deserve
further explanation. I apologise for my lack of communication thus far
and for any confusion which that may have caused.

As you may be aware, I resigned from the position of President a few
weeks ago. My decision to resign was made primarily because I felt
unable to lead the committee to effectively discuss matters which were
important to me - making changes to the club's operational procedures
and organisational structures to be more appropriate to students and
generally more inclusive.

My frustration as President stemmed from the lack of support by the rest
of the committee, and the active hostility from a portion of the member
base. Not having the time or headspace to deal with the stream of
attacks on almost everything I attempted to do, I decided that
distancing myself from the role would be in my own best interests. In
relation to my involvement in inter-club events, the possibility of
another SGM, and the ongoing dispute resolution process, I left the
decision of whether or not my resignation would be in the club's best
interests to the committee. As per the ensuing recommendation, I stepped
down, however with the intent to continue to contribute to the
inter-club events, and remain a door and wheel member.

Shortly after that meeting, I deleted my UCC user account (frekk). This
was done on the assumption that I could continue to sufficiently perform
my duties as a door and wheel member using only my wheel access via root
SSH keys, since there are no technical reasons which should make that
impossible.

Unfortunately, this seems to have been a misunderstanding. Thus, in
accordance with the committee's recommendation on the 4th October, I
created myself a new user account (username x) and updated my membership
record to match. For the purposes of remaining an active door and wheel
member I do not believe that any other actions are necessary, nor have I
been informed otherwise.

However, confusion and chaos presently reign, so to clarify: I would
hence like to inform the committee and wheel that I intend to remain a
member of both door and wheel. Furthermore, I will happily perform any
necessary technical tasks to ensure that I am able to appropriately
undertake the responsibilities of those positions, in accordance with
decisions made by the committee.

From a technical perspective, I would like to request that my root SSH
key access, wheel mailing list membership and access to the password
database be restored as soon as possible.

Whilst I do not believe that the continued obstruction of my wheel
access is justified from a technical or security perspective, nor by a
proper decision of the committee, I am not confident in the committee to
act appropriately in response to any potential breaches of regulation
and would thus appreciate if committee not concern themselves in this case.

On a related note, I would like to request that the following items be
added to the agenda for the upcoming general meeting:

1. Motion to limit membership of the Wheel group to students currently
attending the University of Western Australia.

2. Motion to limit membership of the Wheel group to individuals
currently residing in Western Australia.

3. Motion to require a review of all Wheel group memberships by the
committee, such that:
     * Continued membership of any current Wheel member must be
ratified, on a per-person basis, by a vote of committee.
     * For such committee votes to pass, a 2/3 majority of the committee
must vote in favour.
     * Any related discussions at a committee meeting shall be held
in-camera, and voting shall occur by secret ballot.
     * Appeals for any non-ratified of Wheel group memberships may be
heard at the next general meeting.

Should any of these motions pass, I would suggest to committee to update
the club regulations accordingly.

Regards,

Felix von Perger
