Dear Mike,
Our events schedule for next year is not quite finalised. The University Computer Club mostly focuses on sharing the knowledge of its members and providing opportunities for them to learn new skills. As such the majority of events that are run are workshop-style or social events. We are looking to expand this to more industry events but these are still in the planning stages.
That being said next year we will follow roughly the same workshop schedule as follows:How to Linux
Students learn how to interact with remote servers in a series of workshops. This includes how access a remote server via ssh, are able to create a virtual machine and use it to host their own website or system as well as basic system administration tools such as the shell. We are expecting approximately 15-20 students to attend this workshop with backgrounds ranging from computer science and software engineering to physics, mathematics and engineering.Contributing to Open Source
An interactive workshop taught by UWA alumni covering the social aspects of open source development the kinds of licensing involved and the basics of git. We are expecting 10 students to come to this workshop specifically from a computer science background.Intro to 3D Printing
Students come and learn how to to use the 3D printers that are in the clubroom and the basic concepts of 3D design in relation to 3D-printing. We are expecting 15-20 students to attend this workshop from all kinds of STEM backgrounds. This workshop is run in collaboration with the UWA Makers.Kali Linux Through VMWare
A hands-on tutorial on how to get a virtual instance of Kali Linux running on a machine. Run in collaboration with the UWA Ethical Hacking Group.Decompiling to C
A technical demonstration on how to take compiled binaries and translate them back to high level code. We are expecting 12-15 students to come to this workshop.
In addition to our main and repeat events, we will aim to once again run a few one-off special guest events for which we are expecting larger attendance. For example, this year we ran “Start Up From the Ground Up” (approximate attendance 35), presented by a club alumni who is the founder of a recently-successful small startup. However, these events are dependant on personnel being available to come to the university. We are also planning on running an industry night which is still very much in the planning phases.
Thank you for reaching out and I hope this is what you were looking for,
The UCC Committee.
