Hi James,
Thanks again for the chat this afternoon. As promised, here is a summary
of the specifics around the eSports competitions that we’d like to
pilot. Please know that these details are flexible and we are interested
in working with you to determine how we go about delivering these to UWA
students.
*Our aim:*
To deliver some social, fun and inclusive competitions across a variety
of eSports to UWA students and its broader community. This will provide
students with social activities to participate in while isolated at
home, supporting positive health and wellbeing. In addition, UniSport
are looking to organise National eSport competitions for universities,
and our UWA social competitions can potentially be a pathway for
athletes to be identified for our UWA regional/national teams in the future.
*What eSports:*
Initially, we were looking at the four below games, as we thought they
would provide a variety of options for students/community members to
participate in.
-FIFA 20
-NBA 2K20
-Rocket League
-Super Smash
*When: *
We would like to pilot the competitions in May/June this year. However,
specific start/end dates as well as duration of the competitions are
still being determined.
*Competition specifics: *(What we’ve worked out so far…)**
-Free for anyone to join, who has the correct console and
membership/access to game/s
-UWA Sport are able to use our sport management system to take
registrations for all the competitions
-Setup and promotion of competitions – UWA Sport can lead the creation
of promotional content and information that can then be shared with all
members/stakeholders/students
-Competition incentives/prizes – UWA Sport can lead, details TBC.
*We are seeking expertise on the following:*
-Advice/feedback on competition rules and tournament setting for each
game (i.e. timings for games, difficulty levels, game styles, modes,
etc, competition point system, etc)
-Setup and management of tournaments on each game (i.e. knock-out
competition set on game or alternative arrangement). This includes
working out the specifics on cross-platform settings and/or
specific-console tournament requirements.
In relation to the above two points, we were hoping the Club or specific
members could assist us with these. The commitment is flexible, but I
imagine it would be 1-2 hours a week for each competition. It could be
one person or multiple people involved, depending on their knowledge on
the game/s. i.e. one person could lead each competition or if someone is
knowledgeable across all these games they could be involved in as many
as they want.
I hope the above summary provides enough information for you to share
with the Club and your members. We are really hoping to progress
planning around the competitions next week, and would be interested in
drawing upon the Clubs expertise/knowledge around this time as well. I
do hope that there is interest to work together on these, as they will
be a great initiative to provide to UWA students. If all goes well, we
hope to continue to deliver eSport competitions from here on out.
If you have any further queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me. My
direct number is 0414 947 234.
Regards,
