Dear fellow tech clubs,

My name is Andy and I am the 2021 President of the Computing and
Information Systems Student Association(CISSA) at The University of
Melbourne. I am reaching out to you as we are interested in hosting a joint
virtual hackathon in 2021 alongside representative tech clubs from each of
the Group of Eight Universities in Australia.

Here is a brief outline of what we do:

The Computing and Information Systems Students Association (CISSA)
represents the IT and tech-oriented student community at the University of
Melbourne. We are the largest tech club at UoM with over 1000 active
members. We hold a variety of events including hackathons, networking
nights, technical workshops and social events.

We believe there is great potential to facilitate the hackathon scene
amongst Australian universities. This idea is inspired by the many
large-scale hackathons that take place in the US, and the lack of such
opportunities within Australia. With the reach of each of our respective
clubs, we want to involve as many students as possible. The goal of the
hackathon is for students around Australia to come together and solve
problems using technology. Over the course of a few days, complementary
activities such as workshops, panels and social events are also a great
opportunity for participants to develop their technical skills, network
with professionals, and have some fun!

If your club is interested in this collaborative opportunity to host what
will be one of the biggest student hackathons in Australia, do reach out
and we can arrange a time for further discussions. Please let us know
your preferred channel of communication (e.g. slack, discord). We look
forward to hearing your thoughts on this!

Note: This is a stand-alone event involving clubs from the Group of Eight
Universities, separate from the student IT club union proposed by Gavin
from WIRED Monash.

Sincerely,

Andy Jiang
