[committee] National Student Referendum For Palestine

Hi all,

Hope the start of semester is treating you well.

I'm reaching out in my capacity as Secretary of Students for Palestine about an important upcoming event: the National Student Referendum for Palestine.

This is an initiative from the National Union of Students and Students for Palestine <https://www.studentsforpalestine.me/student-referendum?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAafJs3oYsqP1jTJIIo2WTvpsu5BmKy2Ocy0iEZTlL_bUKTfzCtd9oIAJIjTnMw_aem_WkqmuKH5J6B5zj5e1k7EMg> for student unions across the country to hold Student General Meetings to vote on Palestine. Specifically, it's a chance for students to vote to call on the Albanese government to stop arms sales to Israel, and to call for an end to ties to weapons companies on campus.

This Special General Meeting is being called by the Guild. The Guild President and the President of SFP met yesterday and she confirmed the Guild are hoping to finalise the Event Management Plan ASAP and to announce the event on Instagram and by email early next week.

They have called it in response to our petition from a huge number of students who have called for the meeting to happen. Our vote at the meeting will count for our vote in the Referendum.

We believe this Meeting is really important. The recent March for Humanity in Sydney<https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/aug/05/we-know-the-sydney-harbour-bridge-march-against-the-killing-in-gaza-was-huge-but-just-how-big-was-it> was an incredible show of solidarity to oppose the siege and the starvation in Gaza. Now is the time to keep insisting on those demands and to calling for more practical action - including sanctions on Israel from our government. Now's the time to keep standing up for humanity and to support Gaza.

So that's why I'm writing to ask if your club is able to support this event. Numbers make a real impact with things like this - and your support would be a major contribution to being able to stand up for Gaza and humanity.

Supporting this event means three key things.
*  Can you endorse this event, by allowing us to add your club logo next week to an upcoming graphic of 'endorsements'? Similar to something like this<https://www.instagram.com/p/DMzcj0xzvSU/>
*  Can you share this event, when it comes out early next week, with your members on your email list / discord server / whatsapp group / whatever you use to keep in touch, and encourage them to come along?
*  Can your club re-share the Guild's post on Instagram when it comes out early next week? Or make your own club post / reel about it.
