1. Unsubscribing
================

It has come to our attention that some people no longer want to be on this
list but don't know how to unsubscribe. We hate spam just as much as the
next person, so here's how to do it:
A. Open a mail program which sends mail from the address you want to
unsubscribe.
B. Send an email to the list unsubscribe address, which is
ucc-announce-leave@ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au. The subject and body of this
message will be ignored, so it doesn't matter what you put there.
C. Wait a while for the unsubscribe email to come through, then follow
the instructions in that email.

2. Computer Clubs Camp
======================

This year UCC Camp is being revived in the form of an intervarsity camp
involving UCC, ComSSA and CASSA. This will help us build ties with other
computer clubs, meet some new people and have a heap of fun along the way.
It is 3 nights over a weekend at the end of September and costs $80 for
members and $130 for non-members. See:
https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=153072618103383 and
http://wiki.ucc.asn.au/ComputerClubsCamp2011 for more details.

3. Other events
===============

With the Cameron Hall Quiz Night over, we now look forward to events such
as the Charity Vigil and the UCC Birthday Dinner. We also want to run a
few LANs between now and the camp, but WE NEED PEOPLE who can help out
running
events, or even take charge and organise them completely - it seems
committee
members are pretty busy this semester. Keep an ear out for more details,
or
email committee@ucc.asn.au if you're willing and able to help out.

4. Communication
================

Members with weblogs are welcome to join our Planet.

http://planet.ucc.asn.au/

All we require from you is a sensible RSS or Atom feed. Contact the Planet
Master via planet@ucc.asn.au with the URI of your feed to be added.

New members who have not yet learned to say no have been subscribed to
ucc-announce (the announcements mailing list), but if you're curious where
all the real magic happens, check out the ucc@ and tech@ lists, our lists
for general chatter and technical discussion.

http://lists.ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au/mailman/listinfo

We also encourage members to hang out in our IRC channel, hosted on our
own
IRC server running on mussel. You can connect to it by directing your IRC
client to irc.ucc.asn.au. You will find most regular members in the #ucc
channel.

5. Getting involved
===================

The club doesn't run itself! We're always on the hunt for good people to
do
coke runs, keep the website up to date, keep the clubroom open, run the
servers, and many other things. If you're a fresher this year, you are now
welcome to apply to some of the UCC groups such as door or coke.
We are particularly keen for someone to help update some of the wiki
pages - which is a great way to learn the ins and outs of the club.
For those interested in games, did you know that you don't need to be on
wheel to help run the games server?

6. UCC on Facebook
==================

A few months back, we created a new group for the club in the new groups
format. The assorted old groups are going to be deleted in the near
future.
Come and join the new group at
https://www.facebook.com/groups/universitycomputerclub

7. Perth Linux Users Group presents Rusty Russell at UWA
========================================================

This event promises to be both interesting and hilarious, and is free for
university IT/Comp Sci students. See
http://www.plug.org.au/sites/default/files/rusty-banner.jpg for other
details.

8. Virtual machines for members
===============================

UCC is in a good position to be able to offer members virtual machines for
personal use and learning. If you would like to get your own virtual
machine, drop an email to wheel@ucc.asn.au and wheel see what we can do!

9. Member Projects and Employment
=================================

Interested in Bitcoin? Got skills in Python programming, system
administration or web design? UCC member Luke Williams (shmookey) is
looking for helpers for an allegedly exciting new business! You'll be
involved in the development, deployment and marketing of novel financial
instruments made possible by the unique properties of crypto-currencies
and the Bitcoin network. Whether you are considering a career in finance
or just have a passing interest, this project promises to be fun,
informative and perhaps even profitable!
Luke is going to be at the UWA tavern to talk about the project on
Wednesday 24 August from 5:00pm, so come along if you would like to hear
more - or get in touch by emailing shmookey@ucc.asn.au.

Finally, greetz to the UCC::Albany, and all the best in keeping your club
going strong!
