<pre>Hi Kelvin,
I am working on a project in the University Computer Club to upgrade our
website and in the process I am building a system to allow members to
sign up online. In order to verify that our members are indeed students
at UWA and members of the Student Guild, we collect student numbers of
all members upon signing up.
Currently, these details must be validated when people sign up in person
(currently using only paper forms) by checking their student card. If
signups were to be made possible online, validating details could be
done programmatically with access to the appropriate database.
I believe that the UCC has had access in the past to the UWA LDAP server
(if not intentionally then by accident) which has since been revoked.
Would you be able to point me in the right direction for obtaining
official access to this database? (if this is indeed the best way to
look up student numbers to verify names and guild memberships).
Furthermore, as part of the overhaul of the club's membership system, I
would be interested to investigate the possibility of using a card
reader (as used by the shops around campus that offer Guild discounts)
connected to this database to validate student cards when doing signups
in person. Would you be able to offer any advice as to the best way to
go about this?
Thank you for your time.
Kind regards,
Felix von Perger
UCC Secretary 2018

I see he's got a "Business Information & Technology Services" signature -
that was "University IT", but the structure isn't clear to me.
I'd like to followup our April questions about ServiceNow and DNS
delegation...
Nick.
