Hi May,

Thanks for getting back to me, it's entirely understandable that
things would be a bit hectic nearing end of semester. Hope things
have been going well.

Regarding the tech fixup - prior experience is recommended but
not required, I'll send you a link to a Facebook event once we
have one. Also, if you like, I can subscribe email addresses to
the UCC mailing list so you get updates on our events - most of
our promotion is done by email before anything else. I'll forward
the latest email about the tech fixup to DSC as well.

UCC camp - https://www.facebook.com/events/448656582564417/

Industry talks - if there's any way we can be involved in that,
please let me know - at the very least we can advertise to our
members. When approximately would you be doing the AWS event? I'm
not sure what sort of things a 'high level' cloud computing
workshop would entail, but it certainly sounds interesting. The
industry night also sounds very interesting, please send through
any details you have and we'll see what we can do.

Meetings with other computer clubs sounds like a great idea. UCC
and PCS committee have significant overlap, I've been in contact
with CSSC and discussing the possibility of a "Computer Club Quiz
Night", and then there are the other clubs over in Engineering
including Robogals, Coders for Causes, EEEWA, etc. I'd suggest we
get in contact and try to organise a time to meet before Semester
2, so we can potentially organise some other collaborative events
even then.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Felix

Hi Felix,

Apologies for the delay, the last week of Uni ended up
being really frantic. 7 assignments and three exams, and one
month. Only two assignments and 3 exams to go for now. Finally
having some time to breathe.

Happy to cross-promote your events on our page. I'm not
sure how the takeup will be as most of our members are
post-grad, so we will be working during the break. With the
tech fix up - would you need prior experience before
attending? Please do keep us updated about it. Personally, it
sounds interesting, but I'm unsure if my skills are quite
there.

Keen to join with getting some of the online CTF. Would be
great to do some collaboration, we have been discussing a lot
with industries about coming in and doing talks, and some of
those talks, I assume, would be applicable to UCC. I think I
mentioned before, we are going to do a cloud computing event
with AWS - but I'm thinking now, if we wanted to partner with
UCC, we could ask them to do a more 'high level' workshop. Not
sure if that's something you'd be interested in?

We will be hosting an industry night on August 12 - will be
having companies that have data science departments, but
obviously, they will have IT departments as well. It would be
great to collaborate with you on that. The panel discussion
will be around data science, but we will be having a
networking event post. Food and drinks will be provided.

We are having a very casual end of semester/end drinks on
Thursday the 13th - if you're around, feel free to come down.
Heading to the tav from 4pm onwards.

Daniel, one of our OCM's had an idea about maybe organizing
a quarterly meeting with all of the computer science clubs, so
we can all discuss what's going on, where we can help one
another and have a more collaborative space. Would like to
know your thoughts on this?

Good luck with exams!

Thanks,

May.

May,

I'll be sending out emails asking for mentoring volunteers
shortly, if
you have any event promotional material you could share with
us so we
can distribute it around that would be much appreciated.

Regarding future collaborations, we have a few events
ourselves which
are coming up soon. As mentioned, there is the UCC Camp from
12-14th
July at Camp Leschenaultia -
https://www.facebook.com/events/1946484708796218/

Essentially it's a social event but with a heavy focus on
interesting
tech stuff and creating an environment for people to work
collaboratively on computer-related projects.

On the 17th June (2-6pm) we are running a "Tech Fixup", which
will
involve a range of server administration tasks to be performed
on our
server infrastructure (in the UCC clubroom). The intent is for
people
who are interested in systems administration to get some
hands-on
experience and at the same time engage with the more technical
side of
the club. Let me know if that sounds interesting and I'll keep
you up to
date.

Also, next semester, we are hoping to organise an event for
people to
compete in an online CTF of some sort next semester (unsure
which one,
but it will probably be a 24-48h event held in the Cameron
Hall Loft).
I'll speak to David Glance about that as well. If you're
interested in
collaborating we could work on getting grants/sponsors for
food/drink/etc during the event, and also promoting the event.
Next
semester we'll also be running a series of tech talks and
workshops
focusing on various interesting things, including an "intro to
sysadmin"
course. More details about those later.

I'm definitely keen to see what collaborations we can come up
with, I
think there's a lot of scope for running many of our events
together
since there appears to be significant overlap in our clubs'
target
audiences.

Best regards,
Felix
