Patch to 0.49 -- add support for old glibc 2.1.3

A functional but slightly hackish patch to support older glibc systems that 
have __ss_family in struct sockaddr_storage.  I'm sticking with glibc 2.1.3 
because I don't want to incur the overhead to run a newer version, and 
haven't taken the time to migrate everything to uclibc.
