From danielax at gmail.com Tue Oct 5 15:15:37 2010 From: danielax at gmail.com (Daniel Axtens) Date: Tue, 5 Oct 2010 15:15:37 +0800 Subject: [UCC::ProgComp] ProgComp: Online Leader board, other info Message-ID: Hi all, Hope Guild Elections haven't driven you crazy yet! ==== Online Leader Board ==== As promised, an online leader board is being developed, and you can submit your agents and see how they go! The leader board is at . It's divided up into (presently) 6 categories: Open, C, Python, UCC member, First year students and C programming students. Yes, it looks ugly now, but it will get prettier/more useful! If you have some web skills and would like to help, please get in touch! ==== Submitting your own agent to the leader board ==== If you want to get your agent on the leader board: * Write one! * Email it to progcomp-organiser at ucc.asn.au. Include your preferred name (which will be displayed next to your agent on the leader board.) * List whether any of the following apply to you: - UCC member - First year student - C Programming (CITS1210) student I will then place your agent into the judging system, after checking your code to make sure you're not doing anything nefarious. Judging runs are presently done hourly, so check back frequently. ==== Timeline ==== THIS IS IMPORTANT Final submissions will be due 5pm Tuesday of the last week of semester (26 October). All going well, results will be out on the last Thursday (28 October), and you can collect your impressive and wonderful prizes (which I still have to organise.) The final submission system will be announced closer to the date. ==== MATLAB and Java ==== A Matlab environment will be out soonish. However, Java is presenting some difficulties --- I don't know Java and the people I know who know Java are feeling the crushing pressure of their own uni commitments. So if you are moderately competent at Java and want to help out, please let me know. ==== Misc ==== As always, if you have any questions, please let me know on progcomp-organiser at ucc.asn.au. (If you have submitted a question, my apologies for being tardy in replying!) While a number of people expressed interest in competing, unfortunately only 2 entries were received. However, I am pleased to announce the following winners. - 1st Place: Hipikat, with the Tuning Fork agent - 2nd Place: John Hodge, with the Lockten agent Congratulations to you both! Your prizes are $50 and $25 respectively, available in coke credit or vouchers. I'll be in touch to get your prizes to you. I'd also like to thank the following people for their valuable contributions, in no particular order: - Luke Williams, who wrote the original competition core. - John Hodge, for his help with the C ADK. - Zanchey, for his help with Trac and MoinMoin. - Bob Adamson, for help 'upgrading' the server and setting up NTP. - Dylan Huen, for making UCC::ProgComp promotional posters. Each of you will receive $10 in coke credit as a thank-you gift. Honourable mentions also go to Rufus Garton Smith, James French and the UCC Committee for their contributions. My apologies to anyone I've missed! In 2011, I hope to co-ordinate another programming competition themed around the Tron light-cycle game. In 2011, we'll make sure that Java is actually properly supported, and provide better debugging and visualisation support. If there's any other feature you'd like to see in a future competition, or if you'd like to help, please get in contact with me at progcomp-organiser at ucc.asn.au Finally, thanks again for your interest in UCC::ProgComp 2010! Best wishes to those of you with exams! Regards, Daniel Axtens UCC::ProgComp 2010 Organiser UCC Vice President 2010
