Hi all,
If you were interested in the programming competition last year, but
didn't get a chance to submit anything, now is your chance!
I thought that another game theory style contest would be interesting.
The idea is to write an AI to play Stratego, a board game of
incomplete information.
Essentially, higher "ranked" pieces are able to destroy lower ranked
pieces. Then there are a few pieces with special abilities. The
objective is to destroy all opponent pieces, or capture the "flag"
(which is stationary). Initially, the ranks of all opponent pieces are
unknown - only when opposing pieces encounter each other are the ranks
revealed (and the lower ranked piece destroyed).

We have an irc channel (#progcomp).
If there are any other suggestions which turn out to be more popular,
(and physically possible) I would be happy to work on them instead,
provided that they are made reasonably soon.
As the subject suggests, the competition will probably run early next year.
The source for various parts of the Stratego competition are on
git.ucc. However it would be wise to expect things to change a lot
between now and when the competition is actually run.
Thanks,
Sam Moore
