well.. I couple of years ago, our neighbourhood got "struck" - in our
house it took out 4 network cards, a motherboard, a modem, the house alarm
system, and a video recorder. 

I've returned several Xircom cards which have suddenly stopped
working - network cards seem to have a higher failure rate.
