[tech] Sending mail hangs on mermaid and mussel

Sending mail hangs, with DNS timeouts ;
echo "test" | /usr/sbin/sendmail nick at ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au

It eventually works, after what seems to be a lot of DNS
timeouts... Manually looking up the names seems fine. Check out
mermaid:/tmp/sendmail.log for an strace (stracing it needs to be done
as root as it's suid).

Any ideas?
