gnome-session is definitely broken. gnome-panel claims to be running sawmill,
but no wm is running. I tried removing sawmill and it is still broken - it
just claims to be running another wm (fvwm2).

It's hard to debug this because gdm is broken and doesn't support pressing
F1 instead of enter to get an xterm on login. I'm going to have to tamper with
the gdm session files :)
