[tech] WaveLAN stuff

Hi all

I got off my arse last night and actually installed the WaveLAN Turbo IEEE
gear I ordered from the states a couple of weeks ago. The three "silver"
PCMCIA cards and an ISA-PCMCIA bridge cost me less than USD400.00.

My house now has an 11Mbps wireless 802.11 "ethernet" running between
my Sony VAIO 505 (thera runs NetBSD 1.4V), my Compaq Deskpro P2/266
(vesuvius runs NetBSD 1.4.2) and Paul Wagland's disgusting and huge
and noisy laptop (best runs some hideous version of SUSE Linux).

We're running DHCP, DNS and Coda, and waiting for the delivery of our
1Mbps ADSL connection to the net. Performance seems okay (well, actually
quite good indeed) and we may be able to stream MP3s and voice telephony.

Oh yeah, I hate plug-n-play :-)

If anyone's got any questions, I'll be happy to answer them. FYI we're still
not running WEP due to some concerns about driver support and debugging,
and all comms are in ad-hoc mode until someone hacks base station mode support
into NetBSD.

Regards

Peter
