[tech] slowness of 'man' on mussel

Does anyone else find that 'man' takes an exceptionally long time to
find man pages on mussel? Is that something to do with the index
format? Compressed files? Invalid entries? Or just that there are very
many man pages and I'm wanting the ones from the *end* of the list? ;)
