The second time it was something to do with lack of VM. From the syslog:

Basically some weird VM issue ... There's another .5gig IDE disk in
mooneye now, which I put in Friday night. Considering mooneye only has
50meg of swap atm, and has a 92% full /, I'm going to put some more swap
on this, plus some other part of the file system ... maybe /var or
something? Probably /usr/flame as well.
