mutt on mussel seems to hang while after is displays the message
"Reading (mbox path)..."

It takes 100 seconds to respond to a kill -9 (kernel timeout?).
This is the same even when opening mailboxes read-only (I thought
that might stop it from trying to lock the mailbox). This problem
applies to mailboxes on the local filesystem, too (though they
seem to hang after the message "Sorting mailbox..."). If you let
it time out then: 
fcntl: No locks available (errno = 37)
