Twas entirely my fault. Yes I wanted to rotate the logs. Anyway,
through a combined effort, its back together, running and recovered
and nothing was missed. No wonder it hasn't been rotated in 2
years...  :)

I would write a script to do this, once I'm certain of all the
strange quirks involved. Nobody else has done this?
