Restarting the NIS server on Manbo ('svcadm restart network/nis/server') seemed to make everything happy again. I broke the golden rule of only changing one thing at a time and upgraded Samba, too, so I'm not exactly sure what fixed that (I suspect the RPC reload that the upgrade does was the solution). Some mail may have been lost this morning, but it will have been bounced by asclepius.uwa. Someone with clue should probably move morwong to a new case, or try and debug the bizarre interrupt problem. Had a poke around, webmail appears to be working as usual (i.e. just) - regenerated the config and removed some out-of-date parts of Kronolith (the calendering app) from the Horde registry. I'm also a bit curious as to how someone managed to find a long enough network cable - can you give us more specifics on the physical wiring when it was broken? Yep - someone patched port 9 on the wall (white cable into the filing cabinet switch) into bertoli port 5. This made fenetar work on the uwa.net.au network, which is probably what the person doing it wanted, but totally broke everything else :-P Not a matter of a long cable, just of moving a patch. I've left fenetar on uwa.net.au by patching it into wall-port 14 and replacing a dud patch cable in the room. We really, really, really need to replace links between switches with cables that have ends! I managed to disconnect the back-of-machine-room switch (that connects the Sun and that PC on the desk near the door) and it turned out I'd -nudged- port 18 on bertoli, which had disconnected the link.
