We clearly need to investigate some way of securing hardware in the clubroom to make it harder for thieves to walk out with expensive items like LCD monitors. Also, with the LAN coming up in a couple of weeks, it seems appropriate to mention the existence of the games server 'heath'. It is one of the machines donated by Fugro and will hopefully be running a variety of game servers in time for the Independence LAN. All of wheel's ssh keys are in the authorized keys file for root, if anyone not in wheel wants access or wants to request a particular game be installed please email me. Hello I'd wondered about a cage for each CPU box bolted on the underside of the benches. Something made of arc-mesh with a padlocked and hinge down door on one side in such a way that it isn't possible to feed a screwdriver in, undo and slide aside the side panel then hoik out the memory or CPU. Positioning the cages is critical for knee room and no abrasions from a protruding sharp bits on the final cages. This doesn't help the LCDs tho'. They might need stainless cables that fasten to the wall or bench. Has UCC looked into Kensington locks at all? Most devices have a lock point, and bolting brackets to the desk is doable. There are ways to break them, but it'll make it a bit harder to steal stuff. -Patrick -- http://www.labyrinthdata.net.au - WA Backup, Web and VPS Hosting From coxymla at gmail.com Mon Jun 22 11:58:48 2009 From: coxymla at gmail.com (James Cox) Date: Mon, 22 Jun 2009 11:58:48 +0800 Subject: [tech] Removal of my machine 'spaghetti' and note about game server 'heath' In-Reply-To: <603140b60906211934j5a45fdd7s3c773371a3f50edd@mail.gmail.com> References: <603140b60906211934j5a45fdd7s3c773371a3f50edd@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: Pretty much everything of value in UCC did used to be security cabled to the benches in the old days, but this fell out of use due to slackness and apathy (I presume, anyway.) It is probably as good a time as any to start up that policy again! Is the tool cupboard still full of those laminated steel cables?
