[6100W cooling window-wall / window-box style]
That's good value, bounteous BTU's/buck, even with the extended warranty.
I am a little worried about having one big aircon, though, unless we
have a pre-approved contingency plan to buy perhaps a slightly smaller
replacement at the first sign of trouble. There's a lot of running
around to get a warranty repair, especially if the first few failures
are intermittent.
The window-box, gibson, was bought on 20051217 with a five year warranty,
it iced up a few times, then died around 200710. [DAA] got it fixed under
warranty in 200802 and it's died again, tripping circuit breakers, at
200901. (Still under warranty, at least on the compressor) If it had been
an unremovable split system requiring a professional callout for repairs
or maintenance I expect it would've been even harder to organise that fix.
So... we could leave atacama running and add a portable aircon. They're
not great, but they might be easier in practice to swap or repair.
