The DNS issue was related to IPv6 being useless, that's been disabled. Graphics issues were resolved by installing AMD's fglrx from their website. I have now had to do this so often that I have added it to the SOE. It is GNOME3, however I would ask that people don't just go and install every single other desktop environment. I'll put MATE on it at some point and try and make it the default, but until then just tolerate the GNOME3. KDE people have plenty of other machines to use KDE on, and KDE and GNOME3 together on one machine creates some kind of horrible unusable death machine that won't do anything. Don't put KDE on it. It doesn't run ET but I think that's a 32bit thing and not a "the graphics are fith" thing. This needs to be cleaned up before it does damage, but unfortunately I'm not here long enough to do the job. The machine will have to be powered off, the left drink slide unscrewed (and maybe the right one too), and everything wiped down. A little water will have to be flushed through the drain pipe then the water tray emptied, and each of the solenoids and sensors in the area will have to be checked as clean. Finally the cooling fans under the can stacks may need cleaning, and possibly removing and rinsing with distilled water. I suspect this happened because coke zero hasn't got the sugar content of the other cans, so it's something we just need to be aware of. The problem may have been exascerbated by the fact that the can was directly in the path of one of the fans. I know it's not the most glamourous job in the world, but it really needs to be done ASAP to avoid damaging the machine...any takers? This was because I foolishly ran a `yum update` and the kernel got upgraded. I've fixed it by reinstalling the nvidia driver for the new kernel. The install script is in root's home directory for when we need to do it again. Thanks Pradyumn for finding the driver which apparently wasn't trivial.
