Dear Colleagues

Due to electrical overload, several buildings across campus had 
unplanned outages today.

In investigating this, an electrical fault has been discovered.

There is a power outage planned for tonight to manage the fault that was 
identified today.  From 10pm Western Power will turn the power off 
across Rings A & B (see the attached map – the green and blue 
highlighted areas).

The power expected to be back on at 6am, however we are reliant on 
Western Power to restore supply to us and given the weather forecast, 
they cannot prioritise us over incidents in hospitals, therefore cannot 
categorically guarantee it will be restored at 6am.

It is not expected to affect Mathematics & Statistics; Computer Science 
and Software Engineering or IOMRC (as they are not in Rings A & B).

The following is recommended:

·Defer priority activities that require electrical power for devices and 
instruments tonight and possibly tomorrow

·Turn off any unnecessary electrical equipment /instruments etc. during 
this time to prevent risk of damage from unexpected fluctuations

·Check all electrical equipment is operating normally once power returns

If there is damage to equipment; tests; samples due to this power 
outage, please report this to Helen Medley or Paul McCann in order for 
us to collate the information and deal with fixing the issues caused.
