This chain got started in the wheel@ list as part of another conversation,
and doesn't need to be a closed one. Edited for relevancy.

Hi James,
Reading up about it now on MacRumors…

To run Mojave without “graphics issues” we would basically need a “small metal video card” and then Mojave patcher :)

Small, so it fits, and doesn’t overheat the machine, and supporting the metal API.

Possibly, something like this:

There are also mixed reports with the GT710, and Nvidia CPUs. I could buy one to try it out.

Gothamburg is an Xserve 3,1 and on its max supported OS. (I've just updated the wiki)

Since it's not a production system I don't see anything wrong with upgrading it past supported territory...

But to get to Mojave we would need a new GPU.
I'm not sure there's any point upgrading it only as far as say High Sierra?

That issue aside, I would love to bring Gothunberg up to date and have an X-Serve I could actually use on campus. If I could have decent user privileges there, and you agreed, I could get it up to a more recent
OS/X, and put irc and other relevant apps on it, and would actually end up using it a lot in addition to Ashera.

I’m not sure if it otherwise gets used very much.
