Thanks, I hadn't heard of Munin or Cacti.

I did have MRTG installed, but I swapped to 'Observium' and it is 
_fantastic_ for monitoring network performance on a whole bunch of 
switches. Much easier to set up (especially the autodiscovery), monitors 
a whole lot more things, and the web interface is wonderful.
