Hello Wheel, Committee, and assorted lurking onlookers,
I’d like to formally request colocation space for my two servers in the machine room — something that was previously granted informally after a discussion with [GPO] and others. Since another member has now made a proper request (as one should), I figured I should also put mine in writing before [FOX] smites me for untracked rack units.
Machine Details:
Hecate – 4U, MSI z170a Gaming M5, i7-6700K, GTX 1080, 750W PSU (rarely doing anything particularly dramatic).
Ceridwen – 1U, IBM 3550 M4 v2, dual Xeon E5-2640s, dual 500W PSUs (mostly just sitting there generating fan noise and moral support).
Both are currently housed in the third rack — the one I helped clean up with [ROY] and others in a brief moment of cable-management-inspired madness.
Relevant additional context:
I’m on Committee, Wheel, Sprocket/Winadmin, and Door.
As a Door member, I already have access to the machine room and do not need additional access permission for colocation.
As a Wheel member, I have the power to do slightly dangerous things and (mostly) the restraint not to. I’ve been trusted with access to UCC's network,
and so far nothing has caught fire or emitted smoke that wasn’t already destined to (except that one time..... ask [ROY] or myself... oops)
What they’re doing:
Hecate serves as my primary server (alongside Iris, my VM on Machop), handling a variety of tasks ranging from VM hosting to questionable experiments.
Ceridwen is my current test bench for a deeply cursed mesh networking protocol (think “BGP and WireGuard had a child and gave it trust issues”).
It will be running Alpine, Void, or NixOS, managed via Incus, and serving as a cluster host.
If more info is needed (including power/network usage), I’m happy to provide it — although I can’t promise the explanation will be brief, linear, or entirely sane.
Thanks,
Freya Andromeda
