<p><span style="font-size:12px;">Hi all,<br>
<br>
As some of you saw in #ucc, we ([I2N] and I) temporarily brought
`molmol` down for RAM upgrades. These were successful and
`molmol` is now fitted with 64GB of 1066MHz ECC DDR3 RAM. <br>
We have also finally ordered the 4 new SSDs for `molmol`, 2x 4TB
Micron MX500 and 2x 4TB Samsung 870 EVOs. The plan for these are
a RAIDZ2 (RAID6) setup totalling 16TB of space, doubling the
current capacity of our zpool. The remaining HDDs (if staying
mirrored, 5TB) could be used for less intensive read/writes,
like webcams, mp3s, scratch, and some services. <br>
We additionally learned that molmol has no remaining PCI-E
slots, so finding a suitable Optane/NVMe drive for ZIL/SLOG/WAL
will also involve either replacing one of the SAS HBAs and
losing 8 drive slots on the front disk bays, or the fibre card
(unless someone manages to find a PCI to M.2 adaptor lol). [NTU]
has suggested the <span itemprop="name"
style="line-height:33px;">Synology E10M20-T1 (</span><a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://www.mwave.com.au/product/synology-e10m20t1-m2-ssd-10gbe-combo-adapter-card-ac35810">https://www.mwave.com.au/product/synology-e10m20t1-m2-ssd-10gbe-combo-adapter-card-ac35810</a>)<span
itemprop="name" style="line-height:33px;">, a 10GbE + M.2 NVMe
card to replace the fibre card, which could be then used as a
spare or placed into one of the VM hosts.<br>
We've been looking at a few other drives</span> as well, such
as the Kioxia PM5 15TB SAS SSD
(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://smicro.eu/kioxia-pm5-15tb-sas-12gb-s-2-5-15mm-bics3-etlc-1dwpd-sdfbe01gea01-1">https://smicro.eu/kioxia-pm5-15tb-sas-12gb-s-2-5-15mm-bics3-etlc-1dwpd-sdfbe01gea01-1</a>)
and these rebranded Micron 5210 ION SATA SSDs
(<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://serverpartdeals.com/collections/solid-state-drives/products/lenovo-5210-ion-mtfddak3t8qde-3-84tb-sata-6gb-s-2-5-solid-state-drive">https://serverpartdeals.com/collections/solid-state-drives/products/lenovo-5210-ion-mtfddak3t8qde-3-84tb-sata-6gb-s-2-5-solid-state-drive</a>).
The first is probably a better case for an eventual replacement
of molmol, or if we suddenly need a massive increase in
capacity. The IONs could replace the EVOs in molmol, instead
putting the EVOs into Ceph possibly? We also need to start
looking for new Ceph drives, as many of our current drives are
increasingly wearing out.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:12px;">Feedback and recommendations on
points made above are appreciated.<br>
<br>
Kind regards,<br>
