Can you alphabetically list all of the exploits that affect IRIX 5.3? Does your list of urban gods include Steve Wozniak, Linus Torvalds and the Hero of Time? Do you like Quake? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to attend the University Computer Club annual quiz night, held on Thursday September the 11th at the UWA Tavern. This is a great event, with questions, games, fun and great prizes. There will also be a guest appearance by the UCC SMS screen, featured at O'day '03. When: September 11, 7.00pm Where: Guild Tavern, University of Western Austrlia Cost: $7.00 pre-booked, or $10.00 at the door (plus, a $2.00 discount for current UCC members). Bring snacks, nibblies, yourselves, a brain (not neccessarily yours), and something with which to bribe our completely honest judges. Remember, the Tavern is a licensed venue, all the usual regulations apply. For more information, or to book tickets, send us an email to committee@ucc.asn.au, or give us a call on UWA ext. 3901 (9380 3901). The annual UCC quiz night is a traditional event of geeking, giggling and attempted to answer questions as you steep further and further into intoxication. Well, it's on again. We are gearing up for the fourth annual Cameron Hall Charity Sleepover, and it's time to start getting involved. Like last year, we will be raising money for Youth Focus, a local charity who work to prevent youth suicide, and we hope to raise more than the $1700 we donated to them last year. We are also pleased to welcome UWAnime, who will be helping out this year by running Anime screenings in the old Guild Cinema. To come along, you need to either: - get a sponsorship form from Unigames, UCC, UniSFA or UWAnime (they'll be ready real soon now, I swear ;P) and collect at least $8 sponsorship OR (the wimp option) - pay $10 at the door (of course more substantial donations are always welcome ;). Of course, the point is to raise money for charity, so you should all choose the first option. Plus there will (probably) be a prize for the person who raises the most for charity :) Note that anyone who sponsors themselves $8 just to save a couple of dollars will be subject to much scorn. And made to read very, very bad fanfic. The Sleepover will be at Cameron Hall on Saturday 27th September, and will continue into Sunday morning. There will be plenty to keep you occupied all night, including: - Movies and anime! Two screens of the best pop culture money can download rent! Either in the Guild Cinema or the HUGE TV in UniSFA. - LAN gaming - mmmmm, Enemy Territory. - Board games (Knights and Cities of Cataan, among others). If you suck at anything requiring skill, someone might bring Snakes And Ladders if you wish hard enough. - Food. And Drink. Entry includes Pizza for dinner and muffins for breakfast. The fridges and machines of all three clubs will also be open for business, with all proceeds going to charity. So, bug someone from one of the clubs to give you a sponsorship form, and start collecting today. See you all there, Sleepover organising subcommittee Chas Stan-Bishop Chris Bobridge James Andrewartha Liz Powell Oliver Mailes NOTE 1: There is no note one. This may have something to do with Maelkann being too lazy to renumber the notes. NOTE 2: The Charity Sleepover is a strictly _Alcohol Free_ event. NOTE 3: Hmmm. I wonder how observant people are out there. And how good their memories are *grin* From chas@ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au Wed Sep 17 13:29:56 2003 From: chas@ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au (Chas Stan-Bishop) Date: Wed, 17 Sep 2003 21:29:56 +0800 (WST) Subject: [ucc-announce] Re: Cameron Hall Sleepover In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Hello Everyone, It is an indication of the importance of the Sleepover that I am breaking with tradition and replying to the Unisfa list :) Let it be known that you should all come. There will be much entertainment and it's for a really good cause, as I'm sure many of you will agree on a personal level. And I'll be really upset if we don't get a good turnout ;) > >Well, it's on again. We are gearing up for the fourth annual Cameron Hall > >Charity Sleepover, and it's time to start getting involved. > > > > so what time should we arrive on Saturday? The official start time will be 7pm, but hopefully we'll be set up by 6:30. The Sleepover will actually start whenever a critical mass of people is achieved. Oh, people should grab sponsorship forms real soon now so you have time to get lots of sponsors. Seeya, Chas. The url is: http://trs80.ucc.asn.au/Sleepover2003.pdf So now not being able to make it in to Uni is no longer an excuse for not getting sponsorship ;P See everyone next Saturday, Chas. P.S. For those on Unisfa-announce and not any of the other lists, the Sleepover starts at around 7pm. I hope to see everyone there. Also, if any of you happen to have relatively recent (read: decent) PC's that you are _not_ currently planning on bringing to the LAN, it would be nice if we had a few PC's available for use by people not fortunate enough to have their own. Since this would require a) enough trust to let random people use said PC unsupervised b) the installation of games and c) the effort of transporting a PC without any reward I'm not actually expecting any responses. Can't hurt to ask though, right? ;) Anyway, see you all tomorrow. Chas. If anyone knows someone who plans to come, but is not on these lists, or will not be able to check their email by tomorrow, could they please pass this message along. As of 2 hours ago, I have been notified by University Safety and Health that we will not be able to obtain use of Cameron Hall overnight. This has come as a major shock to all involved, including the Guild and Security. Apparently there are procedures that no-one (once again including the Guild) was aware of that we have to go through. Essentially, we have been destroyed by a mass of last minute red tape. I have spent the last couple of hours trying to find a way around this problem, but I have been told bluntly that our only options are to cancel, move or reschedule. Unless anyone has any _extremely_ bright ideas for relocation, we are going to attempt to rechedule the Sleepover. At the moment, I am not sure when. I will keep everyone informed as soon as I find out what is going on. *sigh* My sincere apologies for any inconvenience this has caused. I wish I had been able to fix things. I am trying to find a bright side, and all I can come up with is it gives everyone more time to get sponsorship. :| Chas.
